Dubai - Dubai unveiled Tuesday the master plan for a massive film and broadcast production zone, spread over an area of 22 million square feet (1,980 square kilometres).
Dubai Studio City, which will include studio complexes, commercial and residential areas as well as a film academy, will provide an environment for film professionals to maximise their creative and technical potential, according to a press statement.
The project was launched in February 2005 to foster regional growth in the broadcast and film production industry.
These include production and post-production companies, animation studios and services such as dubbing, makeup, costume and stage design, casting and lab facilities.
'In Dubai Studio City, we are seeking to create the kind of unique environment and infrastructure that the leading film studios in the world are known for,' said Amina Al Rustamani, director of media at TECOM Investments.
The hub of the City will be a world-class film studio complex, which will house film, television and audio production and related facilities.
The Middle East produces over a hundred films a year.
