A memorial service for Oscar® award nominated ('Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country') make-up artist Richard Snell who passed away February 21st will be held Sunday, February 26th in Los Angeles, CA (USA) at a regular meeting of the IATSE local 706 reports president Sue Cabral Ebert.
According to Cabral Ebert, at exactly that same time in the Bahamas on the set of Disney’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’ on which Snell had been working as a make up and special effects artist, the crew will be having a sunset vigil on the beach.
The "Black Pearl" ship used in the movie will have set sail with its flag at half staff, a skydiver will jump from a plane with a smoke trail, and everyone will gather on the beach. "As the story goes right now, each crew member is donating a day's salary to the family, and even the extras are giving up a day's pay to help," said Ms. Cabral Ebert.
Snell was beloved by all in the makeup world of film. Insiders say he was especially loved by Johnny Depp who he worked with on 'Pirates' as well as with veteran Oscar winning makeup artist Ve Neill - with whom he often collaborated.
“The crew members are just devastated,” said Ms. Cabral Ebert. “I haven't seen a crew so depressed and demoralized since ‘Pleasantville’ when we lost Brent Lon Hirshman."
Richard Snell is survived by his wife Shantell and his two five-month old daughters Morgan Lee and Macallan Grace.
