All this talk of how Daniel Craig is not good enough for the Bond role is hogwash. Craig is an excellent choice for the role, and has a mannerism and aura about him all his own, different from the others. No, he's not Connery, Moore or Brosnan, nor is he meant to be. Each of those Bonds were different than his predecessor, and each brought something new and fresh to the franchise.
There's a website out there thrashing Craig in the worst way, which is complete baloney. The fact that he's done some work as something of an anti-hero should lend credence to the fact that he is in fact a true master at his craft -- think about it: you've bought into the portrait he's painted for you so completely! A great performer is one that inspires intense feelings inside of you.. isn't that what separates an actor of talent from a mediocre one?
Ask yourself: After seeing just ONE of his films, how do you feel when you look upon Craig? Do you feel angry, joyous, sad.. even revulsed? Do you feel anything? If you do, and you feel strongly about it, then Craig has done his job, and has done it marvelously.
I myself saw him in Road to Perdition, and after the film I felt little for the fate of the other characters in the story, even those played by seasoned veterans Newman and Hanks. However, I was quite glad to see Craig's character meet his maker, the deviousness he portrayed, that squint in his eye, inspired intense feelings of a need for justice inside of me. THAT is what an actor is supposed to do.. make you FEEL (one way or the other though, it doesn't matter!). Separate your feelings from your judgment.
Craig is an intense actor, a true master at the craft, unlike all the teeny bopper flim-flam that passes for performers these days. Lee is right.. give him his due chance, he will likely live up to your expectations, if his prior work is any indication. He WILL be the next great Bond, and possibly the best ever.
I boycotted the Bond movies when they hired Pierce Brosnan. The guy is a wuss! It's about time they get a real actor and not some guy who looks like he gets a manicure and facial weekly. To think that the media would interview Brosnan over who should be Bond... heresy. Brosnan should never have been given the role. As far as I'm concerned, using this new guy is just dandy. A complete unknown is better than Bond. Oh, somebody said the new guy is too short. Oh come on! In Hollywood it's super easy to make people appear to be a different height than they actually are. Besides, how short is the guy anyway?
James Bond can't drive a car with a standard transmission? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I thought cars with automatic transmissions in Britain are treated with disdain.
Let's hope his gun is an automatic.
I have always enjoyed the Bond films, and I am looking forward to Daniel Craig's debut as Bond. It is my understanding that the producers' choice of Craig was prompted by the desire to have a more realistic, edgier character type. Craig can pull this off. I recently saw him in Munich, where he played an assassin. He did a great job. Craig will give to Bond some credibility that has been lacking in some of the more recent films.
All of the negative publicity, especially surrounding his injury during a fight scene, was completely without merit. First, many actors get injured during filming. For example, Viggo Mortenson sustained a similar injury during the filming of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Therefore, the fact of the injury would suggest that Craig was giving it his all. It would not support any conclusion that Craig is somehow too frail to play Bond. Second, if the media correctly reported the incident, Craig's reaction was admirable. He had his teeth broken, and was bleeding, yet he said that he was okay, and he resumed filming after his dentist patched him up.
There is a large constituency out there that eagerly awaits Casino Royale with you as Bond. Any calls for a boycott are just silly and will be ignored by all except a few zealots who want a Sean Connery clone to play Bond.
There hasn't been a good bond movie in years. Only mindless nerds and fanboys would want more of the same redundant tripe we've been getting. Fuck it, I'll say it: I'm tired of all these pretty-boy fags in movies, too (no offense to gays). Sure, shake shit up. Make something exciting and cool. Fuck the kind of jackass idiot who gets excited enough over something as silly as James Bond to start a website and incite a boycott. Of all the things in the world to protest....as though there's nothing else going on in the world.
All those critics should read the James Bond books. He wasn't nice, smart or easy, he was a natural born killer who was taken from the ranks by the forces and turned into what he was good at: killing people. A male Nikita.
From what I have seen of Daniel Craig he is going to portray the actual Bond very nicely.
John Smith, /posted Feb.23,2006/ is right. This new Bond guy not only can't drive, he fears guns, is clumsy [lost 2 teeth], cannot express himself properly [The Mirror interview from Oct.2005, JESUS]. And sexappeal? A lawn-mower has got
