Continuing their quest to get more out of IMAX, the IMAX Corporation announced this morning that the next film from the Wachowskis, ‘V for Vendetta’ will join the growing number of movies being released simultaneously in regular theaters and in IMAX. The Wachowski brothers previous two films, ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ and ‘The Matrix Revolutions’ were huge successes in IMAX, their emphasis on heavy visuals meshed well with the grandiose IMAX experience. While in the past IMAX has traditionally been used primarily for showcasing nature documentaries and filmed flyovers of Volcanoes, in recent years the super-theater chain has been moving towards adapting more Hollywood movies to the IMAX experience. Big blockbusters like the ‘Star Wars’ prequels, the ‘Matrix’ movies, and even ‘Batman’ have been moving towards IMAX, and a simultaneous release in theaters and in IMAX format. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Alan Moore, ‘V for Vendetta’ tells the story of a totalitarian future ripped to pieces by a masked vigilante known only as “V”. ‘V for Vendetta’ will be released in theaters an in IMAX on March 17th.
