Old time actors scheme against Ben Stiller

Dick Van Dyke and Mickey Rooney are embracing their dark sides. The aged actors have signed up to play villains in the upcoming Ben Stiller comedy ‘Night at the Museum’.

The Hollywood Reporter says they’ll play colleagues of Ben Stiller, who plays a security guard trapped in a museum when a magical pharaoh’s tablet on display brings the exhibits to life. Van Dyke and Rooney play other security guards on the same detail who want to get the tablet from Stiller and use it to make themselves young. Rooney are joined by actor Bill Cobbs, who plays another of their old fogey baddie buddies.

80-year-old Dick Van Dyke has not appeared in a feature film since ‘Dick Tracy’ back in 1990. But with ‘Night at the Museum’ on the horizon, he’s now slated for roles in two. In addition to being inevitably foiled by Ben Stiller, he has a voice role in the upcoming animated movie ‘Curious George’.

Mickey Rooney, who turns 86 this September, has kept busy in both film and television despite his advanced age. However, his last role in a major film was as Fugly Floom in 1998’s ‘Babe: Pig in the City’.
