Spider-Man's new love

With Spider-Man 3 already well into filming and a cast of characters already larger than the previous movies' set, you'd think Sam Raimi would be done casting. You'd be wrong.

He's adding one more character into the mix alongside Peter Parker, Mary Jane Watson, Aunt Man, Venom, Sandman, and the rest. According to movie rumor site AICN, Sam Raimi has found his Gwen Stacy.

They claim they heard it straight from Marvel head Avi Arad, Bryce Dallas Howard has been cast in 'Spider-Man 3' to play the blonde young love interest of Peter Parker and Spider-Man. In the comics, Peter falls in love with Gwen, and then fails to save her. Since the last movie left him pretty well involved with Mary Jane, and since the part of Gwen has been so late in being cast, it seems likely that the role of Gwen Stacy will be merely an introductory one, leading into a larger place for the character once Sam gets to 'Spider-Man 4'.

Bryce Dallas Howard's first major starring role was in the 2004 M. Night Shyamalan film 'The Village'. She's just finished working for Shyamalan again, and you find her in 2006 as the star of his next film 'Lady in the Water'.
