Notorious political activist and actor Tim Robbins is merging his love of film and liberal causes into one pot. He’s directing a movie version of the dystopian George Orwell novel ‘1984’. In an interview with Empire Online, Robbins says he wants to take the stage version of the book that he’s currently doing with his LA theater troupe to screen. “I’ve got a screenplay of it,” he says. “now I’m starting the process of trying to put it together.” If you did any of the required reading in high school instead of buying Cliff’s Notes, you’ll remember “1984” as the story of a dark future run by a totalitarian government that spies upon its populace. It’s that book that’s responsible for the proliferation of the term “Big Brother”, and the really strange thing about it is that today many of the things predicted in it have actually come true. Don’t believe me? Try walking anywhere without being spotted by a camera. The novel is pretty relevant now, particularly for someone like Robbins, caught up in heavy free-speech oriented causes. But whether or not his movie version will happen remains to be seen. Robbins predicts, “it’s really a matter of whether I can raise the money for it,”
