If Hollywood has noticed that people are getting tired of seeing nothing but sequels, they’re showing no sign of it. Instead, they’re just making more.
TV Guide says the newest follow up film to head towards production is ‘Butterfly Effect 2’, another installment of the mildly successful sci-fi pic that starring Ashton Kutcher. Except this isn’t really even a sequel. None of the cast is returning, and the entire premise of the first movie was mostly that Kutcher’s character was the only one who could do what he could do. He inherited from his father. Maybe this movie is about his long lost brothers?
So far, the only real movement on the project is some casting news. “Smallville’s” Erica Durance has signed up to star along with Eric Lively from “The L Word”. Their movie will use the same concept, but otherwise have nothing to do with the original film. Which begs the question… why are they bothering to call it “Butterfly Effect 2”? Why not a new name for what seems like it’s a completely different movie?
The film is being directed by John R. Leonetti, whom you may not remember as the director of ‘Mortal Kombat 2’. It’s written by Michael D. Weiss, who wrote ‘Mortal Kombat 2’ and even better, he’s responsible for the screenplay used on such gems as ‘Death Train’ and the upcoming, unnecessary thriller, ‘I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer’.
Expect ‘Butterfly Effect 2’ out in theaters for 2007.
