Raimi frees Wee Men
By Joshua Tyler Jan 10, 2006, 16:51 GMT
He’s been working on ‘Spider-Man’ for most of the new millenium, and Sam Raimi is good and ready for a break. Once he wraps on ‘Spider-Man 3’, he’s lined up a new project, and it doesn’t involve the wall-crawler.
Variety says Raimi will follow up ‘Spider-Man 3’ by directing the movie ‘The Wee Free Men’ from a script being written by Pamela Pettler. Her script will be an adaptation of same-named young-adult book by acclaimed author Terry Pratchett.
The 2003 novel tells the story of a 9-year-old farm girl who heads off into a parallel world to rescue her brother from a nasty fairy queen. She gets help from a group of blue, kilt-wearing, sheep stealing, heavy-drinking, 6-inch tall little men.
Pettler should have plenty of time to finish her script, since ‘Spider-Man 3’ isn’t due out until 2007 and Sam will have to finish that first. In the meantime, Pam Pettler is also writing another movie called ‘9’ for Focus Features and producer Tim Burton.
