Morpheus enters The Alchemist

Laurence Fishburne is on his way to writing, directing, and starring in a movie about buried treasure, religion, and herding sheep. No, it's not a bizarre fourth sequel to 'The Matrix'.

According to Production Weekly, Fish is adapting his script from a novel by Paolo Coehlo called 'The Alchemist'. It's the story of a well educated man named Santiago whose desire to travel draws him away from plans to enter the priesthood. He ends up as a contended shepherd instead. But he dreams of buried treasure and, being a well educated man, he takes them as some sort of sign and follows their instructions. The dreams lead him to a seer who tells him to follow his visions to Egypt and the pyramids where he'll find riches.

Santiago arrives at the pyramids, and discovers he's trapped in another 'Mummy' sequel. Or maybe he discovers his real fortune lies somewhere else. Hopefully it's not in his sheep.

This is not Laurence Fishburne's first turn as a writer and director. In 2000 he wrote and directed the crime drama 'Once in a Life'. Shooting on 'The Alchemist', his sophomore effort, begins in 2006 at such exotic locations as Dubai and Jordan.
