Hartnett plays a Lullaby

Heartthrob Josh Hartnett has gotten away from leading roles in big-blockbusters lately. ‘Hollywood Homicide’ is probably at least in part to blame for that. Actually, he hasn’t been making much at all. His last part of note was a fantastic bit role in Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Sin City’. It’s probably the best work of his career.

Now he’s doing a small-budget indie for director Malcolm Venville called ‘Texas Lullaby’, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Hartnett joins a cast that already includes Alison Lohman, John Malkovich, Ellen Barkin, and Tom Waite. The movie is sort of based on Shakespeare’s “Hamlet”, except of course it’s set in a tiny, east Texas town. The script, written by Steve Allison, tells the story of a young man (Hartnett) who learns his widowed mother has married his uncle. The young man’s father reappears as a ghost, and tells him that he was murdered by the wife-stealing uncle.

There aren’t a lot of kings in east Texas, so it’s probably safe to assume they’ll be a family of ranchers or local law enforcement types instead.
