Director James Cameron has emerged from the sea and is ready to start on his first non-documentary project since 1997’s ‘Titanic’. He’s been sorely missed. At last, it looks like he’s moving full speed ahead on his long rumored Sci-Fi movie ‘Battle Angel’ for 20th Century Fox. Mali Film casting has put out a call for an actress to star in a new Cameron movie. They’re looking for someone between the age of 16 to mid-20’s with agility, grace, and an ear for different dialects. That description fits perfectly with the lead character in ‘Battle Angel’, a female cyborg. ‘Battle Angel’ is a story set in the 26th Century, 300 years after a societal collapse brought on by some sort of major, globe spanning war. In that world, cyborg technology is a way of life, and most people are augmented by mechanical parts. A female cyborg is found on the scrapheap by a scientist. Her only human part is a brain, encased in an entirely robotic body. It’s adaptation of a popular Japanese manga series with the same name. To make the movie, Cameron plans to use a groundbreaking new virtual-reality production process to make one of the first truly 3-D movies. We’re not talking about the stuff you’ve seen wearing blue and red lensed glasses. No ‘Jaws 3-D’ here. The process is said to have a lot in common with the photo-real motion capture process used on ‘The Polar Express’, though presumably it won’t result in creepy looking animated characters. This is still a live action film. It’s worth nothing that Fox has yet to confirm whether or not the project has been greenlighted. But his is James Cameron, and they’d be crazy not to.
