Bryan Singer wants to direct Star Trek
By Joshua Tyler Dec 2, 2005, 3:51 GMT

With the franchise's recent box office performance and increasing disinterest on the part of traditionally hardcore, supportive fans, it’d take something major to return Star Trek to its former glory. Well here it is.
In an interview with IESB, super director Bryan Singer revealed that he’d like to take a stab at resurrecting the flagging franchise. “We’re huge Trekkies” he says. Apparently, Singer even did a cameo in the last Star Trek film, ‘Nemesis’.
He says the idea of doing a Star Trek film is something that he’s talked about with his friends for a long time. If he were ever able to do it, his movie would be a “longer story”. It’ll be “big, very big” he affirms.”
Once he finishes putting together ‘Superman Returns’, Singer’s next film will be a remake of ‘Logan’s Run’. Then of course there’s possible ‘Superman’ sequels to think about. But Singer says he hasn’t thought beyond finishing the current Superman movie, though he says there are elements in this movie that could be used by “someone” to continue the story.
Bryan hasn’t ruled out returning to the ‘X-Men’ franchise either, which is good news for fans of those characters. But basically, after ‘Logan’s Run’ he’s free, which if ‘Superman Returns’ continues to be the kind success we expect from him, means he’ll have his pick of projects. Paramount would be crazy not to at least offer him a crack at Star Trek. Someone like Singer in charge could be just what Gene Roddenberry’s once proud nerd-Valhalla needs.
