The details of the origional wargame oleplaying game are the necromutants are the sergeants of the dark legion who lead the undead legionaires the main grunt troopers of the armies.
Necromutants( think the guys in GHOSTS OF MARS with the face metals) are humans that are captured and mutated by the leaders of the Dark legion using unholy combination of evil essense and technology( think Doom and the cyberdemon types).
The undead legionaires are corpses that are re-animated by the same dark technology( think dawn of the dead).
There are a number of 'Aliens'(ergo demons) in charge of the Legion which are Razides,Callistonian stalkers, Templers etc and the main leaders are called Nepharites(big humanoids 8ft plus with horns) which are the ones that will probably be in the film.
To a certain degree GHOSTS OF MARS was a low-budget cut down version of the story that missed out the different forces fighting for control of the our solar system whilst this evil entity crept up and started taking over.
The Story is great and as long as its done well it should be brilliant.
