PJ's monkey gets dimension

Triple Academy Award® winner Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) directs the dramatic adventure King Kong, bringing his sweeping cinematic vision to the iconic story of the gigantic ape captured in the wild and brought to civilization where he meets his tragic fate. Jackson assumes directing, producing and co-screenwriting duties and surrounds himself with a list of superlative filmmaking and acting talents. This actually seems a little hard to believe. Peter Jackson just fired his composer, he's in the middle of redoing 'King Kong's' score with his new hire. Does he have time to turn 'Kong' 3D? Apparently so.
Reuters is reporting that what is bound to be one of the year's biggest movies, 'King Kong', will be shown in 3-D. In-Threem a California based production company, is currently hard at work converting it to their 3-D technology by dimensionalizing it. But don't think of this as lousy, red and blue, 'Jaws 3D'... or even the lousy stuff Robert Rodriguez rolled out into theaters earlier this year with 'Shark Boy and Lava Girl'.
Rather, this is similar to the process that is currently being used with 'Chicken Little 3-D', and it's a lot like some of the work James Cameron has been doing with his underwater documentaries. Could it work for 'Kong'? Perhaps even more importantly, if a major, successful filmmaker like PJ starts using it on big-budget Hollywood films, could this technology become more common? Maybe with more bucks behind it, they'll finally perfect it.
There's been a big push behind 3-D movie technology in the past few years. As I mentioned above, James Cameron has been exploring it and Steven Spielberg recently announced an invention of his own that might help mainstream it. Studios are of course interested because this might be the answer to piracy and declining box office. You can't download 3-D. For that you'll have to buy a ticket.
