Sequel to the smash hit 1993 film sees Robin Williams return as the man who disguises himself as a elderly woman with a dodgy Scottish accent. ...more
Much like the recently released ‘Zorro’ sequel, this sounds a lot like a case of too little too late, but word is that Robin Williams is going to be making a ‘Mrs. Doubtfire 2’.
We’ve been hearing rumors for awhile now that another ‘Doubtfire’ movie might be in the works, but Moviehole reports that the hyper-active, former coke addict comedian confirmed it by speaking with Sky News on the subject. In the interview, Williams’ affirmed that not only is it happening, but he’ll be working on it in the very near future.
In fact, Robin is so jazzed about the idea that one sequel may not be enough! “There are plenty more adventures left for her, and the script could easily run to film 3 too,” he says. A ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ duology?
What’s odd is that the movie really doesn’t lend itself to sequels. Once Mrs. Doubtfire was revealed to be the kids' father, what possible reason could the man have for getting back in a dress again?
The follow up film’s script is being written by Bonnie Hunt and Don Lake. At this stage there’s no director attached.
If the man from Ork really is serious about doing it, the previous movie’s big $441 million worldwide box office take should make getting a proper budget easier. Then there’s Robin himself, still a busy and viable ticket draw. He’s currently slated to star in no fewer than seven upcoming films, counting ‘Doubtfire 2’.
