Singapore - The company of 'Star Wars' creator George Lucas launched a digital-animation studio in Singapore Thursday and has started work on a television series based on the science-fiction series.

Although the legendary director did not attend the opening, he said in a statement that the TV adventure entitled 'Clone Wars' is 'based on the time between 'Attack of the Clones' and 'Revenge of the Sith',' the final instalments in the six-movie Star Wars saga.
'We hope to see it on the air in 2007,' he said.
The operation is 75-per-cent owned by Lucasfilm Ltd. The remainder is held by Creative Technology and the government's Economic Development Board.
The studio will also be involved in a film, but no details were revealed.
'So many of us are avid fans and admirers of George Lucas' creative genius,' Second Minister for Trade and Industry Vivian Balakrishnan said.
Singapore's government is hoping the location of Lucasfilm's first production studio outside the United States will boost its bid to become a centre for digital arts and animation.
