‘Batman Begins’ hit DVD last week, leaving audiences re-primed for more of director Christopher Nolan’s fantastic reboot of the caped crusader. Nolan recently had a few brief words with Empire Online about a ‘Batman Begins’ sequel. Nolan spoke in particular about what he’s planning for the Joker, who’s mentioned at the end of ‘Begins’: “…it’s a very exciting sort of character and a very exciting sort of world that we’ve got to play in, and I have been talking to the studio about what we would do for a sequel. I wouldn’t do it as my next film, but I’m talking about doing it as a film after that.” There’s some confusion about whether or not Nolan is already signed for another Batman film. His comments there seem to indicate that though he’s clearly open to doing more, maybe he’s not yet locked in. The next project on his plate is a magician movie called ‘The Prestige’ starring his Bruce Wayne, Christian Bale and Hugh “Wolverine” Jackman. If Nolan is to do another ‘Batman’, it can’t be till after that, thus fulfilling his requirement for something to space the Bat-movies out. If he does end up doing another, Nolan has definite plans; plans that evidentially start with keeping screenwriter David Goyer involved. “I have marched into [Warners] and I have told [them] what David Goyer and I think the story is, and they seem to like it a lot,” he says. Goyer is a veteran of the superhero genre. In addition to ‘Batman Begins’ he’s written all three ‘Blade’ movies, the cult classic ‘Dark City’, and the upcoming Nic Cage superhero adaptation ‘Ghost Rider’.
