French director Jean-Pierre Jeunet will direct Fox 2000’s adaptation of the novel ‘Life of Pi’ according to Variety. The book, written by Yann Martel, is the story of a 16-year-old boy trying to journey from India to Canada aboard a freighter carrying zoo animals. The freighter sinks, and the boy ends up surviving alone on the open seas in a 26ft long lifeboat with an injured zebra, a hyena, an orangutan, and a Bengal tiger named Richard. Jeunet’s last English language film was the sci-fi thriller ‘Alien: Resurrection’. In recent years, he’s won international acclaim with such films as ‘Amelie’ and ‘A Very Long Engagement’. Jeunet replaces ‘Harry Potter 3’ director Alfonso Cuaron, who had once been tapped to direct ‘Life of Pi’.
