Eisner recreates the Black Lagoon

Universal is returning to the Black Lagoon, and they’ve hired director Breck Eisner to take them there.

Variety reports that Eisner will direct a remake of the classic monster movie ‘Creature From the Black Lagoon’. This will be Eisner’s sophomore effort, his first stint as a director was the summer blockbuster ‘Sahara’, which debuted to solid success earlier this year and snagged him enough credibility to earn another.

At one time Brett Ratner had been lined up to direct Bill Paxton in the remake, but Ratner’s now busy handling the third ‘X-Men’ movie. No word yet on whether Paxton will remain with the project.

Gary Ross, son of Arthur A. Ross (who wrote the original movie), is producing the remake. He also wrote the first draft of the script Eisner will use. Since Variety is classifying his take as a “first draft” it’s likely that it’ll see a few rewrites before the remake starts filming on location in the U.S., Central America, and South America.

‘Creature From the Black Lagoon’ is the story of a team of archeologists in the Amazon being terrorized by a semi-aquatic biped called Gill Man.
