Paramount distributes Dreamgirls
By Joshua Tyler Oct 12, 2005, 15:21 GMT
‘Kinsey’ director Bill Condon is already in pre-production on his new movie ‘Dreamgirls’ for DreamWorks, but they’ve just acquired a new partner.
Variety says that Paramount has signed on to team up with DreamWorks on distribution. DreamWorks will handle the film domestically, while Paramount takes care of international distribution.
Condon’s ‘Dreamgirls’ is an adaptation of the Broadway play of the same name. It’s the story of a trio of black female soul singers crossing over into the pop charts in the tumultuous 60’s. Already cast in the film are Academy Award Winner Jamie Fox, singer Beyonce Knowles, funnyman Eddie Murphy, pop star Usher, and newcomer Anika Noni Rose.
Condon won an Oscar for his ‘Chicago’ screenplay, and he’ll try to duplicate that musical’s success by writing and directing ‘Dreamgirls’. Look for it in theaters in 2006.
