In an unusual move, Warner Independent Pictures has decided to shelve their upcoming film 'Strangers With Candy'. The comedy had been scheduled for release later this year, but now it may never see the light of day.
The film, which stars Amy Sedaris and Stephen Colbert is a spinoff of the long off the air Comedy Central show of the same name. The TV series was a comedy about 46-year-old teenage runaway abandoning her boser, loser ways and going back to high school to get an education.
The first feature produced through David Letterman's production company Worldwide Pants, was picked up by Warner Independent at Sundance for an amount somewhere around $3 million. Variety says they're burying it out of concern that the producers didn't secure all the necessary rights for things like posters and props.
This doesn't necessarily mean the movie will never be seen. Warner may void their contract with Worldwide Pants and let them find someone else to distribute it. Right now though, Warner Independent isn't talking. There's no telling if or when 'Strangers With Candy' might finally show up in theaters.
