Drugs are the Wright stuff for Carnahan

Writer/Director Joe Carnahan, who gained a little notoriety in 2002 after the debut of his cop film 'Narc', has teamed up with Joseph F. Alexandre to script the story of high school prodigy turned narcotics distributor Will Wright. Carnahan will also direct.

Variety describes the movie as a crooked coming-of-age tale in the mold of 'Catch Me If You Can'. Wright was a National Merit Scholar drafted by the professional baseball team the Seattle Mariners. But he was picked up by the feds for masterminding a $70 million narcotics empire and money-laundering scheme. He remained in prison until he turned 26.

Apparently, the real Will Wright is also cooperating with the as of yet untitled project, which ought to lend it an air of reality. Film Engine is financing and Tyler Mitchell, Anthony Rhulen and A.J. Dix are producing the movie for Carnahan.

Joe Carnahan is already at work on another drug movie. He's recently announced he'll be working on 'Killing Pablo', based on a novel about the true story of Columbian drug lord Pablo Escobar.
