Mars is so money

Director, TV host, and swinger Jon Favreau is moving on from family movies to vicious, Martian warriors. He’s been tapped by Paramount to direct ‘John Carter of Mars’ according to Variety.
The film is based on the classic series of Edgar Rice Burroughs science fiction novels about a Civil War solider named John Carter, magically transported to the planet of Mars. There, he finds not the barren wasteland we now know it to be, but a planet populated by beautiful green women and barbaric Martian armies. The book tells Carter’s tale as he uses his superior Earthman strength to woo a Martian princess and become a respected warrior on the far off planet called Barsoom by its natives.
Film critic and internet personality Harry Knowles has long been aboard as a producer on the project, but it’s changed directorial hands several times. Both ‘Sin City’s’ Robert Rodriguez and ‘Sky Captain’s’ Kerry Conrad were each attached to direct at some point. Getting someone with ‘Elf’ and ‘Zathura’ helmer Favreau’s reputation should help add some stability to the production and get it moving in earnest. Mark Protosevich wrote the movie’s original script, but it’s since been rewritten by Ehren Kurger.
