Kevin Smith’s upcoming movie ‘Fletch Won’ was kind of the consolation prize for all his fans who wish he’d had the confidence to take on a movie version of ‘The Green Hornet’. Well, hold on a minute, because Smith has walked away from another one.
News Askew reports that Smith, who’d been working on a follow up to the popular series of Chevy Chase films, is no longer affiliated with the upcoming ‘Fletch’ movie in any capacity, either as writer or director.
Producer David List made the announcement, confirming that the movie will still be made but, “His type of comedy just isn't 'Fletch',” says List. “It's not that Kevin isn't talented or funny. It's just that his comedic style, ultimately, proved not translate well for "Fletch," at least as I and Harvey [Weinstein] felt. Keep an open mind. There's lot's of very funny writers out there.”
List adds that there should be another announcement regarding the film next week, speculation is that they may be announcing the casting of Zach Braff as Fletch, or it could be the name of the project’s new director.
Famed writer/director Kevin Smith is currently working on a follow up to his 1994 debut indie ‘Clerks’, titled ‘The Passion of the Clerks’.
