Taking a cue from last year’s Oscar contender ‘Finding Neverland’, ‘Babe’ director Chris Noonan will direct a feature film about the life of famed children’s author Beatrix Potter. Titled ‘Miss Potter’, Variety reports that Renee Zellweger has been tapped to take on the part of Beatrix, while Ewan McGregor is in negotiations to co-star as Norman, her publisher and love interest. ‘Miss Potter’ will be the first movie for Noonan since 1995’s ‘Babe’ when the new film starts shooting in the UK this coming March. Chris is really stepping back into the business in a big way, in addition to ‘Miss Potter’ he has two other movies in production for 2006: ‘Rule of the Bone’ and ‘The Third Watch’. Long before J.K. Rowling, Beatrix Potter was creating enduring children’s literature. She’s responsible for creating dozens of beloved characters, the most well known being the adventurous bunny ‘Peter Rabbit”. The film, written by Richard Maltby Jr., will explore her life and struggle for independence in Victorian era England. As ‘Finding Neverland’ did, it’ll mix live-action with other more fantastical elements, likely done in animation. ‘Miss Potter’ has been kicking around in development hell for awhile now. At one point Cate Blanchett was attached to star in the pic.
