Nicole learns not to skim
Hollywood's cannibalization of other people's ideas continues unabated. Next up, is a film version of the Jules Bass' comic novel 'Headhunters', being produced by Nicole Kidman.
You might remember Jules Bass as half of Rankin/Bass, the company that produced an animated adaptation of 'The Lord of the Rings, among numerous other 2D animated feature films. Optioned by Fox way back in 1999, 'Headhunters' was Jules first adult novel, the story of four New Jersey women who fly to Monte Carlo and pass themselves off as rich heiresses to win wealthy husbands. Instead, they end up being hooked by four gigolos trying to pass themselves off as wealthy playboys. Think 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' only not as funny and with four times the characters. More is always better, right?
Variety reports that in addition to producing, Kidman will take on a starring role in the film, presumably as one of the women, and not one of the gigolos. Oscar winner or not, that might be kind of a stretch. 'Headhunters' will be written by Jez Butterworth, the man responsible for Kidman's failed and forgotten film 'Birthday Girl'.
