August gets Stoned
By Joshua Tyler Sep 25, 2005, 21:10 GMT

Still just a few years out from 9/11, Hollywood is already rushing high-profile films about the disastrous attack into theaters. No doubt Hurricane Katrina movies aren't far behind.
Oliver Stone's take is perhaps the biggest contender in the 9/11 cash-in fight. According to Variety, Paramount Pictures has just given the pic a release date. Worried about giving the appearance that they're commercially exploiting the disaster (though they're unlikely to turn down any subsequent hefty profit), they've scheduled the as of yet untitled movie for release on August 11, 2006.
Stone's movie, which is already taking flack over fears that he'll fill it with his own controversial politics, is about John McLoughlin and William J. Jimeno, Port Authority officers who were the last two survivors pulled out of the wreckage of the World Trade Center. Also in the 9/11 movie pipe is a Paul Greengrass film called 'Flight 93', a dramatized telling of the passenger takeover that resulted in a nosedive by the airplane. 'Flight 93' does not as of yet have a date, but Variety predicts it'll hit screens before Stone's untitled project.
