Paramount will pay Pullitzer Prize-winning playwright David Auburn big money to churn out a screenplay version of the knight adventure 'St. George and the Dragon', according to Variety.
'St. George' is a mythical tale of a noble knight's quest to save a princess from a fearsome, fire-breathing dragon. In keeping with our modern obsession with anti-heroes, producer Doug Wick says that "In Auburn's retelling, the knight will be not so chivalrous, and the princess not so chaste." Auburn's goal is to give a little more personality to the principle characters, muddy them up a bit, if you will.
Interestingly enough, it was Auburn's play 'Proof' which won him a Pullitzer Prize four years ago, a play which has just been released in theaters as a feature film. Auburn wrote the screenplay for 'Proof' as well, and he's also the screenwriter for the upcoming 2006 Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock romance movie 'The Lake House'.
