More Whedon on Wonder Woman

”Buffy” and “Angel” creator Joss Whedon is out promoting his new movie ‘Serenity’, which means he can’t avoid questions about his next project, a movie version of ‘Wonder Woman’. He spoke to About.com and Empire about exactly what’s in store for the lasso-wielding heroine.
First he revealed that he won’t shy away from putting his own distinctive mark on it. The film’s dialogue will have the usual Whedonesque flavor his fans are used to, “Wonder Woman's perspective is very serious. But that's what's so funny about her. She doesn't understand the world...She's not a wisecracker,” says Joss. “But at the same time, she's not going to miss an opportunity... Usually, people I write are very, very down to earth and she's the opposite. She's somebody who is supposed to be Wonder Woman and spend her life being Wonder Woman but then she's still as vulnerable and as new at it as anybody else, but she's the opposite of every character I've ever written."
Of course the big question on the minds of hardcore Wonder Woman fans (if indeed there are any) is what’s she going to be wearing? Will he go the X-Men route of black leather, or stick with her more traditional attire? "I want to see Wonder Woman as I know her and see her, not ... [just] star-spangled panties,” he explains. “But she wears the Wonder Woman outfit, and she has the bracelets and all the accoutrements; The lasso and, if I can make it work for the plot, the invisible plane.” Invisible planes may not be the most cinematic way to go, but he sounds determined to stay true to the character from the comics.
Joss Whedon is currently slated to both write and direct ‘Wonder Woman’, look for production to start on the movie some time in 2006.
