DreamWorks is mad for more Madagascar

DreamWorks had a phenomenal amount of success with their hilarious, computer-animated family movie ‘Madagascar’ this summer, so of course they’re making a sequel.

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, announced today that the original voice cast members Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Ben Stiller are already set to return when work starts on the follow up. He expects other cast members like Sasha Baron Cohen (King of the Lemurs) to soon follow suit.

In order to squeeze as much money out of their blossoming franchise as possible, DreamWorks also announced that the scene-stealing, commando penguins from ‘Madagascar’ will get their own solo project. It’s a direct to video release due out in 2009.

‘Madagascar’ was one of the real box office bright spots in a down-trending summer, rocketing past the $500 million mark to make it DreamWorks second most successful film ever. ‘Shrek 2’ still holds the number one spot. Look for ‘Madagascar 2’ in theaters in 2008.
