Mario Van Peebles has Yellow Wood

After the surprisingly warm reception of his film 'Baadasssss!' last year, Mario Van Peebles suddenly finds himself leaping out of the "direct-to-video" status he's been mired in. Hollywood is taking him seriously as a director, and so he's already lined up his next project.

His next film, will be a mystery thriller called 'Yellow Wood', for Spyglass Entertainment. The script tells the story of a woman tortured by the murder of her sister. Instead of seeking psycho-analysis, she goes experimental and starts working with a researcher who travels into her dreamscape to help her relive and change the past… at least in her head.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the always existential Van Peebles was attracted the project because of its spiritual qualities. "I've gotten to study spirituality with different folks, and I was interested in the concept of reincarnation and parallel lives," said Van Peebles.

Mario's been spending a lot of time in India, but plans to get working on the film fast enough to start production by Christmas. As he did with 'Baadasssss!' he'll also star in the movie, so that ought to do at least a little something to simplify casting.
