Steve Carell signs on for Evan Almighty

Steve Carell has signed up to star in Evan Almighty for Universal Pictures.
Variety reports that Carrey declined to reprise his Bruce Almighty role so the sequel will instead follow Carell's news anchor character as he goes on an Almighty-inspired quest to build a Noah-type ark in preparation for a great flood...Morgan Freeman is also said to be in talks to play God again.
Tom Shadyac will direct from Steve Oedekerk's script.
