Rome - Hollywood heartthrob Tom Cruise brought navigation to a standstill on Rome's Tiber River as shooting for his latest movie "Mission: Impossible 3" began in the Italian capital Tuesday.
Boats normally crowded with tourists remained docked for the day to allow Cruise to show his skills as secret agent extraordinaire Ethan Hunt on a speedboat in a stretch of water close to Vatican City.
Filming was to continue until Friday in Rome with scenes being shot near St. Peter's Square and the Trevi Fountain.
Next week, the MI3 crew are due to move to the southern Italian city of Caserta, where the local Royal Palace, Reggia di Caserta, will be used to recreate the interior of the Vatican.
That's because Cruise and director J.J. Abrams have been unable to accomplish a truly impossible mission: To convince Vatican officials to allow filming to take place within the confines of the papal state.
