Comedy 'Malaikottai' tops Tamil films

Chennai, Oct 2 (IANS) 'Malaikottai', the film in which young action hero Vishal tries comedy, has got a decent opening even though the actor's last two films were duds at the box office. But Arjun's 'Marudamalai' is set to recapture the top slot soon.
The top five Tamil films are:
1. 'Malaikottai' - Director: Bhoopathy Pandian. Though the film got a decent opening and tops this list for now, almost all critics have panned it. Vishal falls flat in comedy scenes. Priya Mani, after her excellent performance in 'Paruthiveeran', is just a glamour doll here.
2. 'Marudumalai' - Director: Suraj. 'Marudumalai' is another masala film that is doing good business at the box office. Unlike actor Vishal, action king Arjun is good at comedy.
3. 'Sathum Podathey' - Director: Vasanth. This thriller starring Prithviraj and Padmapriya in the lead is doing well in the cities.
4. 'Sivaji : The Boss' - Director: Shankar. The Rajnikant-starrer has crossed the 100-day mark and now filmmakers are just waiting for it to cross the next milestone.
5. 'Ammuvagia Naan' - Director: Padma Magan. This film on the life of a sex worker has been made sensitively and without vulgarity.
