Rohan Sippy offers dream project to Sujoy Ghosh

By Manissha Despaande Aug 20, 2006, 14:24 GMT

Mumbai, Aug 20 (IANS) Like many directors Sujoy Ghosh too dreamt of directing Amitabh Bachchan and producer Rohan Sippy has offered him his dream-come-true project.

In an interesting development, Sippy has signed Ghosh to direct a film, which will have Amitabh playing the central character, reports Bollywood Trade.

Ghosh impressed critics with his directorial venture 'Jhankaar Beats' but his last release 'Home Delivery' failed to click. However, the fate of Ghosh's last film does not seem to have influenced Sippy's decision.

'Sujoy approached me with the script and I found it very impressive. That was one of the main criteria that made me go ahead and confirm the project on a priority basis. Mr. Bachchan has already confirmed his presence in the film and we are currently finalising the rest of the cast,' said Sippy.

Sippy says Ghosh will have creative freedom to pursue the project exactly the way he has perceived it.

'I judge the quality of an individual by his creative intensity more than anything else. I don't go by simplistic assessments of what worked and what did not work at the box-office,' said Sippy.

Two years ago, Ghosh expressed his desire to work with Amitabh in a film titled 'Borivali'. In fact, the actor gave his nod for the project that was supposed to have Naseeruddin Shah in the parallel lead, but the film was subsequently postponed.

Sippy denies that the film is an extension of 'Borivali'.

'No way. It is a totally new script and an absolutely brilliant one at that. Actually, it is a family film, which people of all genres can identify with,' he said.

The film is scheduled to go on the floors once the cast is finalised and chances are Abhishek Bachchan will also join.

'It may star Abhishek but it is too premature to comment on the cast of the film,' said Sippy.
