Sounds like a tricky thing to adapt.
I am looking forward to this, I hope they do not mess it up.
And messing it up would be?...
Surely it can't fail. The cast sound awesome. Sarah Polley, Ronan Vibert and Stellan Skarsgard alongside Celts like Gerard Butler, Martin Delaney and Tony Curran!
I really hope that this movie is not another 'R' rated film. There have been tons of really awesome historical films that have come out lately that have had a ton of crap like sex scenes and horrifically bloody battles in them and i dont like watching all of that junk. Like the new Alexander the Great movie, they made Alex out to be some homosexual sissy whiner girl, but he was arguably the greatest general in all of history! And there are movies like Troy, these new movies are relying on sexually arousing scenes and the attractiveness of an actors body to sell a film rather than the talent and skill of an actor. i would like to see some better quality films that everyone can go see and not just the people who are looking to see some naked chick's breasts. I refuse to watch a movie with a sex scene in it no matter how little it shows, that just isnt the kind of stuff i want to put into my mind. And i think the movies that have been released recently have done well despite their ratings, but they could do better if they were desireable to the movie goers that wont watch 'R' rated films.
I don't think Martin Delaney is actually Scottish, is he?
Read the poem first, and you will know what to expect.
Are you kidding me? Have you even read the Beowulf stories? If the movie is going to at all be an adaptation, it is going to be violent and bloody as all hell! It damn well better be an R, or a high PG-13. Also I felt it neccessary to point out that you obviously have little knowledge on the documents and even tales of Alexander the Great. He was, indeed bisexual. There were plenty of moments of intimacy between men, women, and him! I was already completely expecting this and curious as to how or if they were going to go into detail with this way before I actually saw the movie. As for Troy, the Illiad had many moments of intimacy. Nudity is considered an art form in Ancient Greece, therefor it was very much practiced in real life as well as story. Sex was a defenite element in stories written in Ancient Greece. In Troy, much like other movies based in Ancient Greece(Homer's The Oddysey comes to mind), has that same element and uses actors who just happen to have gorgeous bodies(at least to most people)to portray this. Afterall, Greeks were considered very beautiful people, why not use very beautiful actors and actresses? The point is, there's no need to destroy a piece of history whether fictional or not by changing it to make it supposedly 'more suitable' for our fun loving PG audience, or for that matter the rest of this insane world and their fruitless antics. You know, while we're at it, why not just censor history and make that more suitable for our fun loving PG world? Imbecile.
Oh yeah, and somebody tell this director to actually differentiate himself from other directors and try something different like, I don't know, maybe ACTUALLY making an adaptation of the book to the movie. That'd be a nice change of pace. You know, I'd actually LIKE to see Beowulf have the strength of 30 men! I'd like to see him rip Grendel's arm off. It's a god damn movie for Christ sake! And that is what movies are for, to make the unimaginable come to life! At least that's how it used to be, before movie makers became all pussified. Oh, and how mad was I when he was going to change Beowulf's boasting attitude?! For the love of god, I don't want to go see Beowulf, Through the Eyes of an Idiot! I want to see Beowulf, the original god damn story that was great just the way it was because the creator(s), the Anglo-Saxons, did such a great job! Another piece of historical fine work(although fictional) massacred by the magic of film production.
