Apocalypto gets Gibson Hollywood's respect - not love

Los Angeles - Controversy. Violence. Box office success. Mel Gibson has combined his three favourite ingredients for his latest cinematic triumph.
But while his almighty earning capacity might get him the reluctant respect of his industry peers, it will do little to rehabilitate his personal position in the insular film community.
The former action movie star's violently compelling new movie 'Apocalypto' may have debuted at the top of the US box office and earned grudgingly positive reviews. But don't expect the movie to wow Oscar voters into giving Gibson a second Oscar to go with the statuette he received for his 1995 movie Braveheart. Nor is it likely to make him Hollywood's favourite person.
The movie, which in true Gibson fashion tells the story of one man's fight to save his family from evil outsiders, purportedly takes place at the decline of the Mayan civilization. The Disney release, told in an obscure Mayan language, opened with 14.2 million dollars to top the box office.
This was enough to narrowly beat the Cameron Diaz romantic comedy 'Holiday' but way behind the sensational 83.8 million dollars that his previous movie, 'The Passion of the Christ,' earned on its debut weekend.
That movie however had more going for it than Gibson's latest endeavour. First of all, it had the benefit of a massive grassroots marketing campaign in America's thousands of churches. It was also the most controversial and talked-about film of the year, as Jewish leaders charged that it rehashed the basic excuse for thousands of years of anti-Semitism - that the Jews were responsible for the death of Christ.
'Apocalypto' is also tinged by anti-Semitic controversy - namely Gibson's notorious anti-Jewish rant earlier this year after he was arrested for drunk driving in Malibu.
Reviewers also balked at the excruciating levels of violence in the movie. AO Scott of The New York Times said the movie showed Gibson's 'apparently limitless appetite for gore' and listed a catalogue of torment celebrated in the pic, including disembowelings, impalings, clubbings, beheadings, live heart extractions, faces being chewed off by a jaguar, and the dark art of skin flaying.
It's not just the high brow Times that got a little squeamish in the face of such delights.
A sampling of headlines listed on the movie blog Defamer includes the following uplifting headlines: 'Snuff Epic,' (Indianapolis Star); ' 'Apocalypto' soaks the screen in gore,' (USA Today); 'Drowning in sea of blood,' (Edmonton Sun) and 'Another bloodbath, Mel Gibson's 'Apocalypto' doesn't miss an impalement or a dismemberment,' (San Francisco Chronicle.)
Descendants of the bloodthirsty Mayans depicted in the movie and historians of the civilization are also critical of the film. The 'film feeds into old stereotypes about the Maya being savages,' said Zachary Hruby, a Maya scholar at the University of California, Riverside.
'Hundreds of men are sacrificed on an Aztec-style sacrificial stone, their headless bodies thrown into a giant ditch reminiscent of a Holocaust documentary. Problem is, there exists no archaeological, historic, or ethnohistoric data to suggest that any such mass sacrifices took place in the Maya world,' Hruby said in a statement.
Nevertheless, there is a consensus that Gibson, however flawed his world view and notwithstanding his tolerance level for violence, knows how to make a decent movie.
'Say what you will about him - about his problem with booze or his problem with Jews - he is a serious filmmaker,' noted Scott.
That isn't likely to endear him much to his co-workers in the industry. Though his amazing prowess at the box office commands their grudging respect, there is little love lost for the maverick Australian in the executive suites of Hollywood, if an anonymous poll in Variety has any validity.
The industry trade bible asked executives to comment on Gibson's chances of adding to the Oscars he won for 'Braveheart' and the prognosis was not encouraging.
'You can never forget that the Academy is people ... and considering that many of those people (are Jewish), he's screwed,' said one unnamed publicist quoted in Variety. 'I don't care if it's the most amazing movie since 'Gone with the Wind' and 'Citizen Kane,' put together. He's gotten the last ones (Oscars) and he should keep them in nice condition because there's no more coming.'

This is the most riddiculus article I have read in a while. It is extremely presumptious to assume that the Academy is composed of all Jews that are so sardonic as to not vote for Mel Gibson due to his remarks. And to quote other critics shows very little self esteem...make your own critique, don't copy others. I am not writing this post because I plan to see the movie or agree with its premise. I am writing this post because the writer of this article apears ignorant.
Well, we all know that the awards aren't really for the best movie, but rather for people in Hollywood to give awards to other actors, directors, etc. that they like and are friends with. It's about politics and not about the actual worth of the work.
Well the majority of Hollywood IS made up of Jews, that's just a fact. If me saying that offends you then you might as well get offended when I say that most of the NHL is made up of white dudes, and most of the rap world is made up of black dudes. Get over it man, stop being so touchy and whiny and 'PC' about things that everyone knows are true and aren't even offensive in the first place.
...and of course who can forget Hollyweird's love affair with Broke Dick Mounting -- nothing butt gratuitous pornography between two men(?)?
Jumping ahead; I wonder if New York will be able to fill in the gaps when L.A. dissapears into the Pacific Ocean? Of course the Mexican/Muslim war, over what's left of America, will be going on so there will be a lot of finger pointing on the new Pacific beach front...Arizona?
The Roman Polanski reference is excessively kind. He did not 'sexually assault a minor'. He took a thirteen year old girl into his office, drugged her with wine and Quaalude, and RAPED her. Not statutory rape...it wasn't just that she wasn't old enough to consent. She didn't consent....nor could she have legally consented, not after he'd gotten her drunk...not after he'd drugged her, even if she had been of legal age.
He assaulted her with the drug and the alcohol, and then he RAPED her. And he admitted to it in open court....then fled to France after he posted bail. And there he stays, in the land of cheese-eating surrender monkies, while he continues to make movies and while the Academy continues to fawn over him.
So they are going to blackball Gibson? For a drunken rant? Not for anything he did to anyone...but because of something he said while he was drunk?
Who shows their true values here, one would have to ask?
I can never forget that the 'Academy is JEWISH people' ... and considering that,... many of those people WILL NOT VOTE FOR THE FILM....because of the man (Mel Gibson) and his statements about the Jewsish people. His statements about the Jews are no more disgracefull than Jessie Jackson's statements about the whites, or my neighbor spouting off about the blacks. Let us not forget, that every race has, and continues to make crude, rude remarks about there own,.. and other races. These remarks are, and have been made in public, privately among there peers and without remorse... thoughout time by man as a whole. I would hope that the world, its people would not judge a man by only his mistakes but also for his acomplishments. It is in these moments of anger, disgust, envy, drunkeness, & mistust,.. that everyman has been guilty of thinking , let alone speaking with an unclean tongue.
'Let him who is without sin cast the first stone!'
I agree that a rapist might get an oscar but a person labeled as an anti-semite will never get one. I think the author is a little less naive and little more aware.
It's the Mayan Chainsaw Massacre. Mel Gibson is doing what he does best, telling a story through the eyes of a tormented Catholic pedophile, his desire for violence is only eclipsed by his impotence as a man.
All of you are idiots and wastes of skin
Apocolypto is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I plan to see it again too. Thats the only way to vote in America.
I read about some goof ball college professor who attempted to discredit the picture. He claimed the movie was inaccurate because Mel is an anti-Semite. He also noted that because Mayans were never more than 20 k from downtown (where all the temples are) no Mayan could possibly be surprised by the site of the temples. BS. It was 10 miles of jungle and waterfalls and it was full of villages of people who probably never left their general area. Leave it to contemporary intellectuals like modern day college professors who care more about Maya Angelou and peanut butter to raise such nonsense and call it evidence.
I think Mel did a great job i depicting an interpretation
Not as violent as the shrilling of reviewers implied. Live hearts...yes, but we had that in Indiana Jones. Nothing else explicitly dwelled on in loving closeups as in countless horror films.
On your worst day every one of you are actually as blackhearted as many accuse Mel Gibson of being. Judge the film on the work and keep your racial profiling out of the way.
And I suppose, Mr. Hollywood, that your opinion and description of Mr. Gibson are supported by fact? Or is this simply a reflection of your own low self-worth? Surely you could have used your knowledge, since you show such a lack of it, for something more than putting someone else down in such a fashion. You tend to show your ignorance by such statements.
I must say that I agree with most of the other posts, but definitely not with yours.
Who cares oscar?!
It simply comes down to the amount of violence...that is why I will not see this movie...not due to anti-semetic rantings.
Don't forget though... Romain Polanski is Jewish... Of course he's going to get an Oscar, despite being a Rapist on the lamb. He could be the Devil himself and as long as he acted semi-decent in a big production movie, the Jewish film-making community who has the most votes will give it to him.
1. From the reviews I read before the movie, I was expecting some extreme gore, but it wasn't as bad as I had imagined. There are definitely some gory scenes, but nothing extreme. The Hills Have Eyes is twice as bad in the 'gore' area. Please don't decide against seeing it because you think it may be 'too gory', it's really not that bad.
2. Anyone who won't see the movie because they can't forgive Gibson for what happened this summer doesn't deserve to be forgiven for anything they've done wrong either. No one is perfect. He shouldn't have done what he did, but he has accepted responsibility and asked for forgiveness. We should forgive him and move on.
3. Who cares if the movie is completely historically accurate. People that complain about the accuracy of the film have seem to forgotten one thing... its a freakin' movie! It's has a good story, good writing, and plenty of action. Go see it for what it is: ENTERTAINMENT. And good entertainment, at that!
I suppose everyone here is going to forgive Michael Richards as well?
even if the movie deserves it (and it does!). In so called 'free' societes of the West, once you say a bad thing about Jews - whether true or not - you are finished. This is your 'freedom'.
and dear Oscar Academy - don't forget to learn Yidish too! Just in case it becomes a requirement to keep the job...
Mel can get away with whatever he wants and his obscure little movie can still open at number one because all his fans, many of which apparently read M&C, also think it's ok to blame the Jews for all the world's wars and come out in droves to support him. They started the Spanish Inquisition, they started World War 1, Hitler was a Jew wasn't he? Guess Bush is Jewish too since he started the Iraq war?
Can't wait for your next movie Mel, maybe you and your neo-nazi daddy can tackle the holocaust and explain how it didn't happen. That's Oscar-worthy!
Great film and outstanding actors who did a 10 all of the bitching that goes on the West side of Los Angeles should cut their lower parts and chew ' get on with life He did it'
OK, My comment is about that Hruby guy, the expert on Mayan culture stating there was 'no archeological data showing there was mass sacrifices', except, the Histry channel documentary, and the book 'guns germs an steel', and countless other historical finds of mass graves where the heads had been cracked on the skull, and the club, made of wood, soaked in so much blood had been preserved and unearthed.
Infact, there is AMPLE evidence they sacrificed thousands of men sometimes according to certain sites, they even had a sacrifical procedure that was illustratere in carvings. When the Spanish came on the Mayans, they where a bunch of savages, a degenrate society, though they did have sophisticated roadways and farming techinques, and many things like corn and such not yet introduced into European cuisine, and of course, Gold. Lots of it.. See, 'temple of the Sun, ' in Mexico, where the stairs would run with blood.
So what bothers me, is , how can this guy be a proffessor of Mayan culture an California University when he is ...well, so WRONG.
There is definitely bias within this article.
Did anyone think to question the writers Motives?
The Oscar's are garbage... so who really cares. For instance, can you honestly say that with all the great roles that Denzel washington has played that he deserved one for 'Training Day'. Or what about Sean Penn, the guy is one of the most talented actors out there and he only has 1 oscar.
I don't think the people over at the Academy will wake up and start actually selecting Oscar's based on performance and not because of politics (ie. this person has been in the industry and hasn't received an Oscar yet!). Whenever you have a selection process that is as subjective as 'best actor' or 'best director' there will always be bias. I mean, I don't like Helen Hunt as an actor (actress, whatever). So if there was a movie with her performance vs. say Angelina, I would be bias to pick Angelina. I don't care that she's a homewrecker... but I'm biased because to me she's way better than Helen Hunt.
BTW... haven't seen the movie. Do the Myians live?
The evidence of intelligent debate and thought on this discussion board obliterated any desire to make a comment regarding the article. Save to say that there is far too much emotion and effort wasted on one man's personal life, and not enough thought placed on what his creative work is trying to incite in viewers, whether good or bad.
The movie was amazing and mel Gibson should just be forgiven. Why is it people are so unforgiving these days. Apocalypto blew me away and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Congrats Mel, fine job.
Dog, to be clear -- Mel doesn't WANT hollywood's love. Doesn't need it. He's richer than God and he laughs at the underpaid hack writers who speculate that Mel's life is not complete because he doesn't have a shot at another little faux-gold statuette. Don't cry for Mel. He was vindicated this weekend by the moviegoing public and there's nothing the manipulative, freudenscheude, impoverished mass media can do about it.
Ridiculous article! I guess the more damage these reviewers/jewish propagandists attempt in trying to inflict on Gibson's image, it earns him a greater respect.. definitely from the film goers, whose verdict is what really matters. As for love, oh.. yeah we love him more.
Who gives a damn about an oscar. He's earned the ultimate award, anyways.
First, I must say that I went to see the movie last night. I am not a racist nor do I belive in persecuting anyone for their religious beliefs, sexual orientation, or lifestyle (as long as 'it' doen's hurt others). I do not agree with or condone Mel Gibson's actions, however, I do not think that anyone can be held up to the rediculous demands of the american people that celebrities are. How many times have you been drunk and said something stupid? We take our anonimity for granted believing that all celebrities love the scrutiny. The catagory in which he should be judged is the quality of his films not his moral beliefs. Besides how many of you out there can produce a comparable masterpiece? This is why you are working the dead-end job you have, with enough free-time to waste on responding to this and enough jealousy towards those who actually do what they love for a living! Back seat drivers....stop driving your opinion is stupid.
The movie was extremely emotional from start to finish, this is the whole purpose for art and film to evoke emotion! Maybe some of you sheltered couch potatos think that violence was not a REAL part of life for these people. I suggest you walk out of your 'my feelings were hurt today' group therapy class and get a grip. People hunted for their food, this doesn't mean shopping at the local Safeway~ it would probably be too violent for you to watch the butcher in back of the meat department.
Over all this movie was worth watching and deserves praise. If you really want to pick it apart...the throat slicing sceene was too close to the sceene where Marin was executed in Braveheart, it left you hanging at the end wondering what happens next, and the scene where she gives birth- ok a little too far. Come on everyone it's a movie and you are lucky to have been able to watch it. Go do something worth while...
Aloha,
SB
'You can never forget that the Academy is people ... and considering that many of those people (are Jewish), he's screwed...'
Oh but Mel Gibson points out the same fact in less polite words and he is a racist.....eat me.
Oh get over it already! Stop with the insults, the slights. It's over!
I am Native American and I must say I truly enjoyed 'Apocalypto.' I believe people these days are too sensitive to the point of crying like babies in the school yard. Those people will never be happy. So cry, Waaahhhh!!!! And all over a drunken spew of words. Listen to your friends and family when they get plastered drunk. They are no better than Mr. Gibson. He's no different ecept he makes Millions of dollars you cry babies will never see in your lifetime. But remember this, Hollywood is about money and Mel is making back what he put into it and probably more coming from DVD.
@ grendel
The 'cheese-eating surrender monkies' from your piteous xenophobic rant, laugh at your pathetic prejudices of a brainwashed moron, and advice you to get out of your cave and to get a life.
well written article.
this snip-it paraphrases the whole synopsis of the article:
'Nevertheless, there is a consensus that Gibson, however flawed his world view and notwithstanding his tolerance level for violence, knows how to make a decent movie.' -jL
Interesting choice of words @ grendel... you were obviously present during big word day but I think you were sick for grammar lessons. Either way, at least you impressed yourself!
Aloha,
SB
Again, I suppose everyone here is also forgiving Michael Richards?
Mel should spend his idle time here:
http://cubbysdiscgolfworld.blogspot.com
Good point just asking....,
There is something that is searing a hole in my brain since this all happened with Mr. Richards. Why isn't anyone talking about how incredibly rude the hecklers were? OK, I know that he was out of line with what he said but no one else in the audience was as loud and disrepectful as those two men! Why don't THEY have to take responsibility for THEIR actions? I hate going to a movie and listening to idiots on their cell phone or a comedy show with hecklers...if you don't like the show get your money back and go somewhere else.
~SB
I always liked Mel Gibson as director and actor
But after he‘s remark about Jews… I let live with he is hate…
What a drunk person says usually in mind when he is not drunk…
I do not know about Polanski or Woody Allen -Most likely talented jerks also
But at least they did not hate the whole nation!!!!
But Bloody Mel – hate Jews -which is kind of Offensive to me personally.
It means He hates my 4 year old and 10 month old sons and me.
Who did absolutely nothing to him?
He also hates Jesus –(who was Jewish)
I hope he reads it!!!
He most likely end up like Michael Jackson or something like that!
Hurrah for Gibson!
Who needs and Oscar when the real votes are at the box office?
Given Mell!
mel is no nazi.
americans beat the nazis in wwII.
many americans died killing the nazis.
mel is an american and has killed no one.
to call an american a nazi is un-american.
Good job Mel - you have a good knack for stirring up controversy very easily. Haven't seen Apocalpyto yet - but will soon. I doubt that Mr. Gibson was trying to win an Oscar with making this movie. He probably just loves the job of being a director and making a movie that he wants to make.
Mel Gibson's latest travesty takes a false look at the ancient but in many ways very advanced Mayan civialtion and depicts them as huters and gatherers and total abject savages in the same film. His story is summed up with innuendo that these 'hunters and gatherers and abject savages' are somehow going to be 'brought to light' by the Catholic friars. It was just more radical one sided hyper-Christianity bunk brought to the world by Jew hating Mel Gibson in order to make some big bucks while insulting the proud ancient Mayan civilization. What else could we logically expect to emanate from Mel Gibson. Don't patronize his hateful movie.
sorry jamie garcia
all mayans were nuclear physicists. in the 21st century we still have hunters and farmers so what's your point?
px
Mel pits Shockingly Cruel against Incredibly Normal
Who is an anti-Semite? We know Hitler was. He targeted Jews and killed them. When someone calls a person an anti-Semite, I believeÉ in this country, theyŐre calling them a Hitler. A person who wants to kill, or insight violence towards a Jew. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad seems to fit the description.. but what about Mel Gibson? Many Jews call him an anti-Semite. Does he want to kill the Jews? I know heŐs Braveheart but heŐs also 50. Or, will he insight others to call harm on the Jew? By using his vehicle-movie - THE PASSION. Big movie. Lots of violence. Jesus 1 Đ Jews 0. But like the movie TitanicÉ it came on strongÉ then it was gone. No angry riots. Just a lot of tears and cash. And now thereŐs Apocalypto! Gibson once again, pits good against evilÉ takes it to the extremes.. and then stuffs it into an action film. BANG! And the Heads, the Heads, the Heads, what is this CNN! See what happens when you give 2 OSCARs to a bloodbath and its maker! Oh yeah, that movie was just about the savage English killing everyday people like you and me; that sat well with academy. Well, why not! There English! I donŐt remember much about Braveheart but I do remember the womanŐs throat being cut. It was shockingly cruel! I got it! Mel- pits ĐShockingly- Cruel- against- Incredibly- Normal. ThatŐs what he does in his films. Johnny, I want you to print that on the front page for tomorrowŐs paper! Get Lou to create me a mug shot of Gibson as Jesus. God, if I only owned a newspaper!
I saw Apocalypto on opening night and it was a brilliant and riveting film. I hope to see it again. Mel Gibson is a genius, as were many others with defects and flaws. Wagner operas are performed all over the world and he makes Mel Gibson look like an alter boy. But for Hollywood to make character judgements ..... give me a break!
Must I remind everybody, this is a Hollywood MOVIE, not an Independent Film Channel documentary? If we can't take liberties with movies, then I shall utter the word, CENSORSHIP!!! Mr. Gibson, keep up the great work and what a way to spark conversation around the world.
At the end of the day, the box office wins. Oscar or no oscar, Hollywood follows the money and Mel knows how to bring it in. So, for all the people in Hollywood, that have a problem with his remarks, guess what? Some of these same people will eat their own dog food if they could work with Mel and bring in the dollars. So, what's the point? None of of it matters. If he was a two-bit actor, his comment's wouldn't even register.
I respect Mel Gibson for the strength of his character, irrespective of whether I agree with him or now, and also for his evident command of both the creative and practical aspects of film making. I also respect the opinion of each of you who have written here, whether or not I agree with you. My heart remains open due to an indisputable fact: we are all connected - in our own pain and dissapointment, in the love that we feel for those who we love, in the anger that is engendered in us when we see someone we care about harmed. Ultimately, Mel's movies, though seemingly extreme at times, put us directly in touch with the searing pain and the love that is a part of being alive.
Peace, Brothers and Sisters,
Marcus
I read a review on last Saturday's Newspaper saying the violence in Mel's movie is over-blown. Too violent for anyone's taste. What! When was the last time a editorial said a movie is too violent? Even the cartoons are blowing characters in pieces.
The same newspaper today has another editorial saying the movie is not true in many ways depicting the Mayans. Like the way they lived and the sophistication of their culture.... This is a movie, not a PBS documentary, fellows! You guys hate Mel but pick better shit to put on him. Are you saying Tom Cruise flying in the air in MI3 can happen in real life.
This Mel bashing is amazing, maybe he's right 'coz he's drawing the ire of many f#@! jew lover.
In the old testament, them jews massacred a lot of people including children..and lets face it ,they did kill Jesus..and a lot more prophets before him.f ..them jews.
I would like to see a movie staring Roman Polanski and Mel Gibson cruising Hollywood for under age Jewish girls that they would drug, deflower and sacrifice to Mayan Sun gods. I am sure it would win a Bin Laden Award at the Iranian Academy Awards. Heres to sexual perversion, violence, hatred and overdosing on drugs, everything America has brought to the world as family entertainment. What a truly grand contribution to world culture it has been. Thanks to all those the 'bergs' out there for doing what they do best.
I liked Johnny Hollywood's comment that he is a Catholic Pedophile and Impotent man. The guy has 7 kids and has been married for over 25 years ... no one, not even his most virulent enemies have ever accused him of being a pedophile because its not true.
Mel makes a drunken rant about Jews being the cause of all the wars in the world the day they started bombing Lebanon and he was arrested by a Jewish officer. He also called a female officer sugar tits.
For this he should never work on Hollywood again and his movies should never be recognized. Well I've known of lots of movies that were aggressively racist against blacks or asians and they have been lauded by the Hollywood elite.
If the Jews hate him so much, they should refuse to make money from him. I also expect them to aggressively austracize any Jewish film-maker who has ever made a racist statement against any group - including blacks because we need to be fair.
Academy Award viewership is plummeting and after Mel not getting an award for the Passion, most of us know that the awards have nothing to do with quality film making, but it is more of a popularity contest among people who don't matter much anymore. The Academy is not objective so they are irrelevant.
ups ,my apologies for my previous comment...i was drunk...i love them jews.am sober now..see the difference..between drunk and sober.?
Mel is a good guy and an excellent film maker/artist.
Love? In Hollywood??
Beyond all the above noted deficiencies of this article, your expert opinion regarding the Mayas is suspect as well. Although the legacy of Spain's violent conquest of Latin America is often pointed to as the seeds from which Latin America's tendency towards violence, revolution and violent crime,in fact, the Mayan, Aztec and surrounding tribal groups were known for the violence and human sacrifice that Gibson details. Certainly he has taken liberties to some extent but, in all actuality, it would be difficult to overstate the level of violence and human sacrifice that went on in these groups. Finally a movie that tells this fascinating and frightening story.
Mels alright... He spoke his mind while drunk. You might agree or disagree with it. But I rather know someones true feelings and allow them to speak them than to forever hide them and not ever let me know what was what.
As far as Hollywood...it's a total toilet that takes hundreds of millions of dollars to make 1.5 hours of rubbish. Probably about 2 movies a year come out of Hollywood worth anything, but definately not worth the cash wasted to make them.
As far as who owned and runs Hollywood...well, that's easy to figure out. If you can't figure it out then there is no point saying.
I don't think the first thing Gibson or the rest of Hollywood cares about is 'love' or 'respect'. The most important thing is 'did it make money?'
If it makes money everything else follows...
Jimmy Carter who is the most honest, kind-hearted and do-the-world-good president in recent times. He is leading many aid and election work for the world. His presidence was not effective in carrying out the good because the crooks in Washington tripped him in every way.
His recent book was called 'distorting history' by in the headline of the CNN page last week. Just the heading said 'distorting history', reading the content has not much substance on what history it distorted except saying the map he used in the book has slightly more black than white (land being occupied). I guess someone must know that many readers just read the headlines and guess the story. The story was soon pulled probably because someone realized that it was just giving the book more publicity.
Even a good president could be called liar on the front page, Mel should be a fair game.
Hate if you will/Love him if you must,
It really doesn't matter,
The fact is,
His movie is still number 1 where it counts,
And he's still happy everytime he walks into a bank.
Award or no Award.
(i'm sure he's loosing sleep over it) ...right!

It's fascinating to read all of the anonymous Jewish bashing. It seems
many of you are quite impressed with anti-semitic he-man Gibson. Much
of your ire expressed about Jews is from pure SPECULATION about their
reactions to Gibson's anti Jewish bigotry. I'm sure you would not expect
Black Americans to vote Richards any awards. Jews are always held to
double standards, and YOU are hypocritical bigots. If the Nazis were
marching down American streets tomarrow, many of you would cheer and
happily point your fingers to your Jewish neighbors. Cowards.
I am not against Jewish people. They are smart and do well in many things. This is their gifts and they have every right to enjoy the fruit of their success.
The double standard that I see is, any other groups (Asian, Black, Native American..) got stepped on. No media machinery trying to drive the perpetuator out of business. Say Richards could still enjoy his work on TV or in Movie.
If someone says anything negative on Jewish people big (President of United States ) or small (regular citizen), even the things are facts. The person would get pissed on from all media.
It got so bad that special terms are created. Any other people (Africans, Cambodian, Turks...) in the world get massacred, it is called Genocide. Like Insecticide or Herbicide. If Jews got killed, it is called Holocaust. Do you have a feeling that when you hear the word Holocaust, it is like a no, no, no, no....... Very, very, very very .... serious/painful/evil/sinful/unexcusible killings. Why do you feel this way, because you have been brain washed by the media blasting at you. Next time when you see another documentary on TV on the Holocaust, imagine a small child with his eyelids pulled up by couple of paper clips with the TV in front. The info is force feed into the brain.
If you use a N word to describe an African American, or similar words for other minorities. If is called racist comment. If you call Jewish people bad, it is antisemitic. Oh no, you are antisemitic. Do you have a feeling it is billion times more sinister that racist. It is bad to be a racist, but being antisemitic is no, no, no, no..........no.
Why! because you have been brain washed. Like the Manchurian Candidate. It is funny that when you watch the movie, brain-washing felt so remote and unreal. Surprisely we are already a Candidate.
So, I don't have forty-eight hours, Julie's with a spider and a pig,
and what about my 'Hebrews 9:22'? Or, what about, 'Martire Di Machiavellico'?

reading most of these comments is such a waste of time!! I read the whole 7 pages in about 2mins, because only a handful were actually about the movie!!
For ---- sake just comment on the accuracies of the review in regard to the movie and whether or not you remcommend the movie!
I've seen it, and loved it! Do NOT ban this movie on the basis of violence! it's no more than Brave Heart!!!! All this rant about the gory stuff is absolute rubbish. You'll miss out on probably best movie that has come out this year/Christmas holiday!!!!!
As far as the credits of this rubbish review by Andy goes....well recommending a paedophile for an Oscar just says it all!!!

But the Academy will throw awards at a rapist (Roman Polanski), again and again. Seemingly hateful drunken speech > sexual assault of a minor, in Hollywood's eyes.
