The red carpet rolled out last night in Westwood Village (Los Angeles) for the opening premiere of the LA Film Festival featuring their first film of the season ‘The Devil Wears Prada,,’ directed by David Frankel and produced by Wendy Finerman. The screenplay was written by Aline Brosh McKenna adapted from Lauren Weisberger's novel, The Devil Wears Prada. There was a buzz outside the theater as the audience stood in line to catch the first glimpse of Anne Hathaway and Adrian Grenier, the two co stars of The Devil Wears Prada as they walked the red carpet, while many celebrities came from across the globe to show up for this grand festival opening. To kick off the event, Allison Janney received an award for her excellent work in television and film as well as the support from her fellow colleague Virginia Madsen. She was not sure what the award was for, but made up for it with good humor as she introduced the film’s director David Frankel. Janney teasingly poked fun at his height, introducing him as the very tall director that everyone loves. In a calm low, key voice, he commented about being short next to Allison Janney and many laughs echoed from the audience. They announced the sponsors and then the film began. With the fresh smell of popcorn in the air and everyone properly seated, the curtain came up.
Wide angles of New York streets, architecture and bright lights filled the audience when the movie began and the story unfolded. There you were in the office of a famous magazine house surrounded by prissy assistants and staff, high fashion couture and the hustle and bustle flowed till it nearly knocked you head over heels. If you understood who Patrick Demarchelier or Steven Meisel were, then you are a true Fashionista, Diva junkie… Not many there caught the inside joke, but if you were in Fashion, or you were ever privileged enough to be shot by either one of these two Fashion photographers, you knew that their work marked a moment in history. The plot thickened, the story line twisted, and a love interest developed between Simon Baker and Anne Hathaway. It became obvious that in order to have success, you had to become a slave to Fashion. The lessons learned by Anne Hathaway finally came to a close when she finally landed back in the company of her much loved boyfriend Adrian Grenier. They both move forward, by following their original quest.
Mainly, to love what you do and to be clear of what you’ve always wanted. Make that your first love and happiness will follow.
After the show, the party continued in the beautiful and festive Westwood Village, with live music, entertainment, plenty of food and cheer. I had the pleasure of dining with English actress Jane Seymour and her family. We chatted briefly about her new film,’The Beach Party in the Threshold of Hell,’ a dark comedy coming to the Film Festival on July 1st. Look for Katherine Cunningham Eves, a new comer in this film.
See you there, or be square….
