The Unseen Movie Review: Click
By Robert Dixter Jul 10, 2006, 8:37 GMT

In Columbia Pictures/Revolution Studios\' comedy "Click," Adam Sandler portrays Michael Newman, a family man whose busy career as an architect doesn\'t leave much time for his wife, Donna (Kate Beckinsale), and two kids. Unable to figure out which of his many remotes turns on the television, he goes shopping for a universal remote and finds the perfect device through Morty (Christopher Walken), who gives him a one-of-a-kind remote with magical ...more
A job, a wife, a baby and no free time. I haven’t seen the films but based on what I’ve heard and know, we’ll see if the movie is worth it. It’s the UNSEEN MOVIE REVIEW.
Adam Sandler has managed to create quite a career for himself after being such a dumb (yet funny) guy on Saturday Night Live. He makes around $20 million dollars a film.
David Spade dates Heather Locklear. You tell me who is luckier.
Sandler basically makes the same movie over and over again. You take a quirky concept (guy has to date girlfriend over and over again for the first time, guy must overcome his own anger, or has a remote control that controls his life), add a decent good looking actress (Winona, Drew and now Kate) and then walk through the film for 90 minutes insulting people.
There’s no acting involved, the director lets Sandler be Sandler. He tosses off a bunch of quick one liners and then also fills the cast with a few “interesting” choices.
In the movie ‘Click’ he costars with David Hasselhoff and Christopher Walken. I can only imagine the pitch to the studio, it’s like ‘The Deer Hunter’ meets ‘Knight Rider.’
But Sandler is really no dummy. He knows what his audience wants and he delivers every time. After a while people could start saying that this moron kept making moronic movies over and over again. So Sandler got smart and started popping up in other films where he is able to work on his craft (that’s a standard description for $20 million dollar stars who go against the grain – see Carrey in ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’).
We already see the articles where they’re quoted as saying they “needed to stretch”. At least we haven’t heard the other standard quote from rich actors, “but what I really want to do is direct”.
Sandler made ‘Punch Drunk Love,’ ‘Spanglish’ (at least it was with Jimmy Brooks), and later this year he’ll release ‘Empty City.’ And the really funny thing is that Sandler is good in all of them. I thought ‘Punch Drunk Love’ was dead on casting. But his day job and his real income come from these dopey concept films where Sandler is always Sandler.
The real funny thing is that even though I know that these movies keep repeating themselves, and Adam never really changes anything that much, I still want to see ‘Click.’
I always found his films to be 90 minutes of enjoyable fun, as though he is letting you in on a joke. There are at least one or two big laughs per film and by today’s standards that’s not bad.
I just hope Schneider doesn’t pop up in this one again with his stupid overused “You can do it!” When will that guy just go away for good?
