A job, a wife, a baby and no free time. I haven’t seen the films but based on what I’ve heard and know, we’ll see if the movie is worth it. It’s the UNSEEN MOVIE REVIEW.
I’m sure I’ve said this before but Vince Vaughn is the funniest guy working in film today. I know what you’re thinking, what about Don Knotts or Louis Gossett Jr.? Well, Vince tops all the rest right now. Remember when Swingers first dropped? I haven’t seen a film debut like that since Elizabeth Berkley danced into our hearts with Showgirls.
The guy was so good that Spielberg called him up to be in Lost World. So with hot indie cred and a huge blockbuster by the greatest director of all time under your belt, what do you do next? Clay Pigeons, Return to Paradise and top it off with a movie someone named Hitchcock already shot! Vince, I understand you want to show the range and prove you can really act but to paraphrase Jerry Maguire, show me the funny. That’s all I want. If you’ve ever met Vince you know that he’s not even acting in these comedies. He is exactly like that in real life. So enough of the drama, just be yourself and make us laugh.
Vince finally got smart and got together with a few buddies to create a new wave Rat Pack. Will Ferrell, Jack Black, Luke and Owen Wilson and sometimes Ben Stiller (kind of like Y being a vowel). And the thing is they turn out funny films like Anchorman and Old School. But out of all these guys the one who is consistently the funniest in these films has been Vince. He killed in Wedding Crashers and was the best thing about Old School (remember his toast at Will’s wedding? Genius). But what happens when these funny guys branch out on their own and start doing solo films?
This summer we’ll find out as each of these guys has their own starring vehicle. Luke is in Super Ex-Girlfriend, Owen has You, Me and Dupree, and Will shows up in Talladega Nights. It’s gotten to the point where these guys are commanding so much money (Ferrell pulls in 20 million, Vince is making 12 for The Break Up) that studios can’t afford to double team them anymore. My prediction for this summer is that only one or two of these will hit. I’m betting on The Break Up and Talladega Nights. I saw the trailer for You, Me and Dupree and it looks awful, I don’t think Luke is as funny as the rest, and Nacho Libre with Jack Black looks too weird to reach a mainstream audience. So I’m betting on The Break Up to be the comedy of the summer.
I’ve also said this before, Jennifer Aniston cannot act. This shows you just how high I am on Vince that I’m dying to see this movie even though Rachel Greene is in it. I know she got dumped by Brad, I know she’s America’s somewhat sweetheart, but I just don’t see the talent in Aniston. She’s a sitcom actress who lucked out marrying a big name movie star then shacked up with his Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star. Ok, that’s enough on Jen, because Vince has me so psyched to see this film, if only for that Lionel Richie line from the trailer – We can do this Lionel Richie style, we can go All Night Long.
