The Unseen Movie Review: The Benchwarmers and Friends with Money

A job, a wife, a baby and no free time. I haven’t seen the films but based on what I’ve heard and know, we’ll see if the movie is worth it.

Jon Heder was amazing as Napoleon Dynamite. He had that character down cold and I personally think he should have been nominated for an Oscar for his performance. Hey, Marisa Tomei won one of those nude gold guys why not Jon? So Heder took the indie cred and fame and has now turned it into a pretty decent career, well at least a working career. He pops up this week in Benchwarmers, and while the film looks like something you might find between sofa cushions, you can’t fault Heder for saying yes to the cash and the supposed big time (if co-starring with Rob Schneider can be considered big time) after find fame and glory with his best friend Pedro. I don’t work for a studio but it is my understanding that the trailer for your film is made in an attempt to lure people into the theater to come see the movie. So if the trailer shows you unfunny dumb moments it stands to reason the film won’t be much better since those are the highlights. It’s kind of like eating a MacDonald’s sundae, why is all the hot fudge only up top? By the time you get to the bottom it’s plain old vanilla ice cream. When was the last time you saw a lousy trailer to something that turned out to be a great film? I’m sure they have existed but I can’t think of one off the top of my head. (Really, please respond below and tell me). So when I watch the Benchawarmers trailer and I see a bat go flying out of someone’s hand only to hit a passerby in the head, I know two things. 1) This movie will suck more than Dyson and 2) the writers for this trash are lifting jokes from old Bad News Bears movies.Adam Sandler is a producer on the film and I’ve always admired the way Sandler supports his friends by lending his name and producing their movies. The only problem is he needs to spend more time making them funny too. Grandma’s Boy was dead on arrival, and it looks like Benchwarmers is too. It’s too bad since I usually find David Spade pretty funny, but when you need to wear a dumb wig to get laughs it’s a clear sign that your jokes aren’t that strong. Take note Cher.The other movie I will be avoiding this weekend is Friends With Money. Now, I’m sure I will her about this next statement, but I am convinced I am correct. Jennifer Aniston is not a movie star. She’s also not much of a plumber but for now let’s concentrate on her movie making. Aside from her good looks, Jennifer Ansiton does not have much going for her in the talent department. She is a lousy actress, excuse me, she is a sitcom actress. Every film she appears in stars Rachel Greene from Friends. If she wasn’t sleeping with Hollywood’s hottest leading men she really would not warrant the press she has received over the past few years. None of her films have ever opened based on her name (please don’t try to tell me Bruce Almighty was HER success). It’s nice to see a big Hollywood name doing the indie thing but she should really learn to act first.

Wow, I was shocked by your Jennifer Aniston comments. I think Jennifer solidified her acting chops with her performance in the Good Girl. This was a role that was extremely anti-Rachel. It is true that she has been in a string of bad films as of late; but I feel she has enormous potential to grow in film. She must have something going for her if she's set to star with Meryl Streep in Wanted... I found your comments completely unfounded, and a bit premature. Her film career is just beginning, she has some time to find the roles/directors that will make her shine.

Maybe you need to at least see her in Friends With Money before dissing her or better yet read some of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.com. They really like the movie and Jennifer's acting. It actually has one of the highest ratings for movies released this weekend. I hope that you aren't really a reviewer- you sound too judgmental to have that kind of job. It also helps to see the movie before you discount it. You also need to check your spelling.
