You should see Serenity even if you haven’t seen Firefly. It is a lot of fun. Lots of action, there is comedy in all the right places and there are some very well written intense drama moments as well. It is worth checking out. Also the movie cost $45 million not $30 million. I do recommend watching the show before hand because you will turn the movie in to something that is missing from Movies today and that is heart and soul. How often do you get 14 hours of great char writing under your belt before you get to see a big budget movie? Movies go wrong when they try to mix char writing with story telling. Serenity is purely story driven where the show was char driven. Hence the combinations of the two make for a very unique adventure.
i understand your tongue and cheek-ness of this article about not seeing the flicks yet. but you should at least try to see them. you profess that you want SERENITY to do well, yet say you wont even see it. try it out. you might like it. i saw an advance screening. it rocked!
There's no need to have seen the TV series for the movie to make sense, and rock your world. The movie mixes humor, love, and terror in generous amounts and serves it all up at a pace that will leave your heart racing. Joss does an amazing job of pulling the viewer's emotions around a roller coaster and suddenly throwing in something unexpected and disturbing.
Plus it even has a typical sci-fi tendency to throw in a philosophical assessment of the human condition which if you don't care, you won't even notice.
No need to see the TV series. The movie brings you into the world very nicely in the beginning. Give it a shot! It's fun!
And what's wrong with shaking up the system a bit, I wonder? If it means getting more intelligent, witty, and genuinely fun action movies like 'Serenity' (saw a sneak preview here in NYC a few weeks back, I know of what I speak) and less formulaic, crappy bombs like 'Stealth' or 'The Island', I say shake, baby, shake! And trust me (and all the other people leaving comments): you do not need to know anything about 'Firefly' in order to enjoy this flick.
The film is amazing. The last 30 minutes are so intense, I felt like a kid again. You really get lost in this film. That's the 'magic' of great fims.Oh, and to repeat what others are saying--you don't need to see the show to understand or enjoy the movie! Find Serenity this weekend!!!:)
OK, you got a full life, maybe you don't get to see all the movies you want to see. But trust me: 'Serenity' is NOT one of those movies you can put off and catch later from Netflix. Once everyone else starts raving about 'Serenity' this weekend? You might not be able to stay away. Just do your wife a favor and bring her along, because this isn't one of those stupid, only-for-guys movies. I took my niece to see an advance screening, she had no previous exposure to 'Firefly,' she declared 'Serenity' the best movie she's been to all year. So, hire a babysitter. See 'Serenity.' You will have so much fun, you won't even call home to check on the kid, I promise.
