A job, a wife, a baby and no free time. I haven’t seen the films but based on what I’ve heard and know, we’ll see if the movie is worth it. It’s the UNSEEN MOVIE REVIEW.
Where have you been Jodie Foster? She only makes one film every three years and has a career much like that of George Bush, do one big thing every three years but it might not turn out great. Unlike George, Jodie is quite good at her job. The thing I like most about Foster is that she doesn’t give into all that actor crap. “Oh, I’m all about the craft”, “I need to be challenged”, “Ms. Brown? My name is Hugh Grant”. Jodie doesn’t do a big budget flick then turn around and pop up in an indie film to show she’s grounded and remembers where she came from. She does studio picture after studio picture. Imagine if Bill Gates was caught downloading pornography off of Kazaa days after releasing the new Windows system. That’s not really a similar situation but it just struck me as being funny. The weird thing is Jodie proved you don’t have to cut your rate and work without a trailer to win an Academy Award. She won two making good films for studios. Remember that part in Silence of the Lambs where Buffalo Bill dances around with his pecker tucked between his legs? Jodie wasn’t in that scene but it’s the one thing I took away from the film.
Her new movie is called Flightplan, and from what I’ve seen it has a pretty cool idea at its core. She’s on a flight when her daughter disappears and soon she discovers that the people on the plane never even saw her daughter on the plane in first place. It kind of reminds me a bit of Garry Shandling’s What Planet Are You From? Garry played an alien that used to show up on planes in mid-flight. The film was pretty funny but didn’t star a two time Oscar winner and Garry’s face looks like it was stretched and then whacked repeatedly with a polo mallet. In Flightplan, Jodie flips out and starts yelling “Chickabay” like she did in Nell and then goes looking for her daughter. After realizing that there’s nowhere for the kid to hide, since most planes don’t even have enough room for your freakin legs, she realizes something mysterious is going on.
Sean Bean also pops up in the film, and I’m not sure but I’m betting that he plays an evil person. His face just looks like that of a villain. After Goldeneye, I could never see him as the hero, and when I saw Fellowship of the Ring I knew I was right. I also knew that nobody should ever make a three hour picture about hairy feet and pointy ears, but when I saw Return of the King I realized I was wrong. I thought Jodie did a pretty good job in Panic Room, and that film had a pretty dumb premise to work with, so if the idea is actually good I’m hoping Jodie can really deliver.
