The X-Files: I Want to Believe -
David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
In grand “X-Files” manner, the film’s storyline is being kept under wraps. This much can be revealed: It is a stand-alone story in the tradition of some of the show’s most acclaimed and beloved episodes, and takes the complicated relationship between Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) in unexpected directions.
Mulder continues his unshakable quest for the truth, and Scully, the passionate, ferociously intelligent physician, remains inextricably tied to Mulder’s pursuits.

I think the writer of what ever this is has been under a rock.
and it has already been reviewed
Okay, I was a huge fan of X-Files while it was on T.V. I bought the whole series on DVD and hosted an X-Files Marathon on Thursday in preparation for the film. Then, at 12:01am, the opening notes sent a chill down my spine. Then I had a conflict. My expectations were one thing and what happened on the screen was something else. I left with mixed feelings. It was great to see Mulder and Scully again, like old friends I hadn't seen in ages! On the other hand, the movie wasn't what I had in mind. I had to see it a second time to really appreciate it! Chris Carter said they made a 'Monster of the Week'. However, I still was wanting the Mythology! On the second viewing, I just watched it for what it was ... 'The X-Files'. It was AWESOME!!!! True fans, drop your expectations and all the ideas you have in your head!!! Just go for a ride with Mulder and Scully and see where it takes you! You WILL NOT be disappointed!!!! Boy I hope they make another movie!!!! Preferably before 2012 (The obvious time to really hit us with a movie based on the Mythology!)!!!!
Couldn't have said it better than Marymcclean. I too have always enjoyed the Mythology of the xfiles, but heard enough to know it wasn't the focus in this movie. I had no expectations, but to be re-united with old friends, Mulder and Scully.
I too enjoyed the movie because it enbodied what made me such a devote fan from the beginning -- 2 people drawn together, though vastly different, one relying on science and one on his gut and the unproven. The movie kept that wonderful characterization, and I got caught up in the story, and even thought I was seeing the Mythology creeping in at one point :). In any case, if you loved the x-files for the strong characters as I did, I believe you will enjoy 'I want to Believe'.
I suppose I will have to agree with the those who wrote before I. I went in with high expectations; I too am a long time fan and have all the seasons on DVD. My thoughts as I was watching the film were 'I hope something happens here, some twist at the end.' However this did not happen. I was rather silent after the film, trying to contemplate what my mood and thoughts really were about the film. I will say I was disapponited that there were no ties to the old plot line (although i knew this going into it), however I too was very happy to see my old friends again on the screen. I thought about all the episodes that did not follow the main plot and how this related with those episodes...looking at it from this point-of-view I would say that it was just as good as all the other episodes that I know so well.
While I agree it was good to see two of my favorite TV/movie characters reunited I was extremely disappointed in the product which resulted from the reunion. The plot was absurd, even for sci-fi fans, and the blatant homophobia and priest-bashing themes reduced this film to a forgettable gradeB movie for me. Unless the writers go back to the main theme of extraterrestrials cooperating with humans to invade the plantet I'm not wasting my money on another minute of X-File silliness.
