Based on the novel by Hunter S. Thompson, The Rum Diary is a tangled love story of jealousy, treachery and violent alcoholic lust in the Caribbean boomtown that was San Juan, Puerto Rico, in the late 1950s. A place where Paul Kemp is 30, trapped in a dead end job, and sees his dreams of being a writer fading fast.
