Mamma Mia! -
Story is about a bride-to-be who never met her father and was raised by a formerly rebellious single mother (Streep). The daughter invites three likely paternal candidates to her wedding, and the ensuing conflict triggers the performance of 22 Abba hits including "Dancing Queen," "Take a Chance on Me" and "The Winner Takes It All."

Having seen the stage show which was great, and not yet seen the movie, I was amazed at the age of the actors chosen.
All of them are great actors, but surely someone in their mid forties should have been chosen for the parental roles.
Because of this, I may not even go to see the movie.
Who cares? Meryl Streep is my all time favorite actor and she will give this movie everything it needs to be one of the best. Watch it and see for yourself!
Saw the movie, and thought it was dreadful. Overacting, grimacing, jokes you could see coming a mile off, striking grotesque poses and lack of singing ability (actors) and acting ability (singers) made it supremely cringeworthy. The only saving grace was the fun when the credits were coming up at the end.
Loved it, Loved it, Loved it! It is nice to see just fun talented people acting the parts and having fun. Why do they have to have perfect voices and be the perfect age and be perfect dancers. The movie was Great and entertaing with all the imperfections. I know if you went and saw it, YOU would laugh and enjoy it just as much as I did!
I have never seen the stage play and i even noticed by doing the math that they were all way to old to be playing those parts....meryal dancing around in her young ppl clothes and acting 10 was very disturbing lol but overal i liked the story line and they looked like they were having fun..i would love to have been in this movie it looked fun to act in but they need new parental roles !! who are younger!! a lady playing a 40 year old women who jsut played the queen in her last movie is kinda werid
loved-loved-LOVED IT!!!
Don't care what the critics say! I found this movie thoroughly enjoyable! When I walked out of the movie I said to my group that I would have to come back and see it again because I enjoyed it so much and everyone agreed! The music is infectious ... the story was fun and the actors did a great job! I love Pierce Brosnan - and while I don't expect he will have a new career in musicals, I thought he did fine ... My favorite HAS TO BE when the cast sings Waterloo at the end credits! Laughed til I cried!
I Absolutely Loved This Movie And I'm Going To See It Again As Soon As Possible!
The Best Song In The Movie Absolutely Has To Be 'The Winner Takes It All', Which Was Sung Absolutely Amazingly By Meryl Streep.
Meryl Is My Idol And I Was Already Expecting A Brilliant Performance By Her Before I Went To See The Movie, But I Was Shocked, Because She Out-Done Herself More Than I Though Was Humanly Possible.
Amanda Seyfried Also Sang Fantasticly And You Could Really Feel The Mother-Daughter Relationship Between Meryl And Amanda.
I'd Just Like To Thank The Cast For Doing Such A Great Job On The Movie And If Meryl Ever Reads This, Your Performance Was Outstanding And I'll Be Watching All Your Future Movies.

I've seen the movie 5 times now, and I'll probably see it again. I thought Meryl was stupendous, and the ages of the actors (actors tell a story, they don't need to be the exact age of their characters!) didn't bother me because I thought they all did a marvelous job.
Hey, grow up about ages! Meryl Streep and all did wonderful and received a standing ovation in the Midwest. I grew up with Abba - and can't unfortunately pay for 'THEATRE' tickets. In case your untrained ear can't hear, Meryl can sing. And yhe point of the movie was to reach ALL OF ABBA's Fans whop sang the songs and didn't have a voice! I'm 46 how old are you? The movie is great and oneof a kind, letting all sing without voice-overs. Did you watch the credits, it listed all the voice coaches, - betcha rushed out too early for that. All of these acors are majors stars and don't make 'B' movies. Takes a lot of guts, probably hard to understand for a generation that has VIDEO, massive ADHD due to video games, and lacks empaththy (look it up in the D-I-C-T-I-O-N-A-R-Y)ro reality, unless it is a show. Believe me, an Acadamey award actress wouldn't do this unless there was substance. By the way, it was prodisuced by Tom Hanks - or do I have to explain who he is too?

For the 30 million fans of the stage musical 'Mamma Mia!' it is a travesty that the movie was cast with actors who are not only non-singers and non-dancers, but are also way too old. The story goes that Donna was about 21 when she got pregnant with Sophie and that was 21 years ago. So do the math. Donna and the three possible fathers should all be around 42. Meryl Streep is 59, Pierce and Stellan are in their mid-50s and Colin is in his late 40s. Not one of them is the right age, including Donna's two friends. Hearing them all joke during interviews about being non-singers and non-dancers is an insult to those who love the stage show because of the great performances. If age was not a consideration, then 62-year-old Bette Midler should have been cast as Donna. She can sing, dance and act, and looks much younger than Meryl. It is a mystery why Bjorn & Benny approved this cast of non-singers for their world famous musical. At least movie musicals in the past had Marni Nixon's wonderful dubbed voice. A real disappointment.
