Local Hero -
Oil billionaire Happer sends Houston executive Mac to a remote Scottish villiage to secure the property rights for an oil refinery they want to build.
Mac teams up with local tour guide Danny and starts the negotiations, the locals are keen to get their hands on the 'Silver Dollar' and can't believe their luck.
However a local hermit and beach scavenger, Ben Knox, lives in a shack on the crucial piece of real estate, a beach which he also owns. Happer is more interested in the Northern Lights and forges an unlikely friendship with Knox, and Danny meets a biochemist with webbed feet, Marina.
Mac leaves the village with a heavy heart.
The music by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits adds richness to the experience, and the cinematography vividly contrasts tangled, noisy, sterile, modern-day Houston with the gorgeous, emerald green Scottish landscape and the peaceful, pristine coastal village of Furness.
