“My name is Robert Neville.  I am a survivor living in New York.  If there is anybody out there…anybody.  Please.  You are not alone.”

Robert Neville (Will Smith) is a brilliant scientist, but even he could not contain the terrible virus that was unstoppable, incurable, and man-made.  Somehow immune, Neville is now the last human survivor in what is left of New York City and maybe the world.   For three years, Neville has faithfully sent out daily radio messages, desperate to find any other survivors who might be out there.  But he is not alone.  Mutant victims of the plague—The Infected—lurk in the shadows…watching Neville’s every move…waiting for him to make a fatal mistake.  Perhaps mankind’s last, best hope, Neville is driven by only one remaining mission: to find a way to reverse the effects of the virus using his own immune blood.  But he knows he is outnumbered…and quickly running out of time.

Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Weed Road/Three Arts Entertainment Production, “I Am Legend,” starring Will Smith.

The film is directed by Francis Lawrence.  The screenplay is by Akiva Goldsman and Mark Protosevich, based on the novel by Richard Matheson.  Akiva Goldsman, James Lassiter, Erwin Stoff, David Heyman and Neal Moritz are the producers, with Michael Tadross, Dana Goldberg and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers.

i really can't see them following the book faithfully with will smith as neville. i just can't see him growing somewhat deranged and scraggly.

This happens in New York, at least the film does. Should be good with Will Smith.

I was talking to Tom Savini at a convention once and we agreed that this film need a remake. I don't care that they are using Smith in the lead. He's good and they can do wonders with make up to make him appear unkempt and a little malnourished. It's a really scary story with chilling and shocking moments. It's also very sad. Will has made me tear up on occasion so I* think he'd be able to pull it off convincingly enough. I cannot WAIT.
Ooooo. When his wife come back home after he buries her. The door knob jiggles and she's all gross looking and he has to kill her again. CHILLING !

The trailer looks great. It'll be interesting to see Will Smith in this type of Genre. Great movie to close out the year and highly anticipated for all vampire fans. I haven't seen a good vamp flick since the original Blade.

This is gonna be the biggest pile of balls to hit the big screen since 'iRobot'. Why does Will Smith keep signing up for films which are at best poor interpretations of amazing books. I strongly recommend that anyone who's read the book, looked forward to an eventual film and now reckons that this mindless pap will be good to search for the screenplay.
Moving the film forward in time is bad enough, but now Robert Neville is a maverick scientist instead of an average joe; his ramshackle house is a high security building with it's own medical bay, armory, car garage and who knows what else; the vampires aren't near-enough insane civilians who can't handle the idea that they're undead but are translucent-skinned, warpaint wearing tribal grotesques complete with war drums; the film has a happy ending, rather than the best ending ever in a scifi/horror; and to top it all off it's gonna be a Will Smith action movie- which can mean only one thing: lots and lots of scenes of Will diving through explosions acting like Will Smith (anyone who's seen iRobot will understand what I mean by this).
It's been said that this is going to be more like The Omega Man than the book of I Am Legend, so why not just do a remake of the Charlton Heston movie as opposed to desecrating the book?
Anyone who thinks that this is going to be a good vampire movie is gonna be disappointed, instead they should focus on the film set in Antarctica where a group of Vamps run rampage during the vast period of darkness- it's got Josh Hartnett in it, but that shouldn't be enough to spoil the concept, which 'I am Legend' will undoubtedly do...

That's my opinion anyway...

I was not aware there will be that many changes. It does sound more like Omega Man with a cross between Ghosts of Mars and the Last man on earth idea.
I robot was terrible. Let's give this one a chance.

I NEVER go to a movie expecting to see the book on screen. I would rather just read the book. I am glad that they make changes in movies that are different than the books, it makes the movies more of a suprise cause you don't know EXACTLY what to expect. Will Smith isn't a horrible actor, in fact, he isn't bad. He's no Gary Oldman or John Depp, but he is good. I just love films like this, the end of the world types. I Robot wasn't that bad, but it could have been better. I love Charlton Heston, but the Omega Man was horrible. The Original 'Last Man On Earth' in 1964 was always fun to watch, and was probably closest to the book. Vincent Price is god. lol

I would just like to say that I sure hope the movie is better than the book. Normally after I read a book I say wow that was really good, however this is not the case with this book. At the end he just takes the pills and dies, totally cliche. He should have fought back and taken as many of those monsters as he could of with his bare hands. Although I understand he was injured heshould have fought until death. This was one of the worst book I have ever read.

No, actually it's more like 28 days later. All the important points of the story are there but they changed so much to bring it up to date you know? I just saw it and I was slightly vexed at how they changed the ending. BuuuuuT..... It works and it is a solid film. If you've never seen the two prior films or even read the book you would'nt need to.

Anyway it has it's chills and thrills and copycat sequences. Think about every zombie/vampire film ever mix it up with a Road warrior feel and add a bit of Blair witch suspense to boot. There's only so much can be done these days. Go, watch , enjoy.

oh yeah...Dec 19th, 2007 - 03:14:05

No Gary Oldman or Johnny Depp ? Uh. Gary Oldman is a character actor nothing more and Johnny Depp is cool and all and I like his work but he is not a better actor than Will Smith. Match up the movies. Ali? What did Depp do ? Peter Pan ? Hah ! Pursuit of Happyness. Compared to Gilbert Grape? Depp did not make the Pirate movies Disney did. Anyone could have played Sparrow, even Bloom.
I loved the Men in Black movies and have watched them at least 10 times. On a scale Smith gets a 9 and Depp gets a 7 but Oldman gets a 4.
Not one thing has he done I like or even watched more than once. Keanu is actually better.

I was really into the idea of this film. Then I saw it. The friend I went with walked out really liking it, until I started asking questions. Its a Vampire movie, so yes I can suspend my logic corner of my brain. Some scenes did work for me, but as a story this is messed up. I love some of the visuals, but there was at least one scene that could have been extended. Also, the introspective thing wasn't working, but I don't want to give anything away. Some of this was good, it just was never finished.
