American Hardcore -

‘American Hardcore’ traces the lost subculture of American hardcore punk from its early 1980 roots to it's virtual extinction in 1986. The hardcore punk movement, one of the most innovative and influential musical and cultural phenomenon of the last century, took hold of America's suburban youth and spread inward to large cities creating a culture shock nationwide. From 19801986 followers of this music, mostly Reagan-era misfit kids, created a social movement that went on to influence many of the biggest bands of the 90s and today. Without the American hardcore movement, grunge rock bands such as Nirvana and Pearl Jam, as well as the music of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beastie Boys and Green Day, would not exist. Hardcore music gave America¹s youth a voice, an escape, and to some, it offered a better world. The influence of the hardcore movement has stood the test of time, proving to be more than fast, loud music, but a way of life. ‘American Hardcore’ is a testament to the power of youth and an exploration of an unheralded subculture.
